To MMEs - What % of your work is QA? - FossilMT

Posted: May 07, 2013

Trying to get some idea of whether I am getting higher percentage of QA work than other MMEs (due to the hours I work).  Been trying for months to figure out why I am under constant threat of losing my job for LPH below minimum, when my calculations (total lines produced divided by production time in Teamwork) always show well above minimum.  It was finally disclosed to me yesterday that 1 QA line is only counted as 0.43 of a line!!!!

100% - BeyondFrustrated

Ever since switching to third shift, I haven't had a single editing or straight typing job. Makes it kinda hard to make a living when all of your work is 3 cpl. Yet another reason I hope others on this forum can be kind to MMEs, give us the benefit of the doubt, because we constantly deal with the problem dictations and get paid less though we are more qualified/experienced. Makes no sense.

then why do it - makes no sense

[ In Reply To ..]
If you are so "more qualified/experienced" why do that for 3 cpl?

Because I still want to have a job - BeyondFrustrated

when they get rid of all domestic MTs, which seems to be the trend if not eventual goal. Plz, don't take it wrong. It's a fact that in order to become an MME, you must first be a Tier 3 = more qualified, more experienced, able to handle basically anything they throw at you.
The title MME does NOT make one more qualified - see message
[ In Reply To ..]
I am an editor one at my second job (comparable to MME here) but I choose not to go that route at this job.
I am pretty sure I am more qualified and more experienced - than you are, however,
[ In Reply To ..]
I didnt feel like taking a pay cut to prove that.
Oh please, I can handle anything that they throw at me and don't want to tier up - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
I also believe I make more than you. You are not more experienced, more qualified and not able to handle basically anything they throw at you any more than I am. If you want to be a MME that is your choice but I choose not to. Don't make insuinations about anyone's ability. You don't know me or my abilities!

Maybe MMEs should give US the benefit of the doubt. - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
You don't know what that report looked like before the MT cleaned it up for not much more than what you make.

Some MT somewhere had to also deal with that "problem" dictation and probably spent far too long fixing every third word/punctuation and formatting.

And just because you have the "title" of MME doesn't mean you're more qualified or experienced. A lot of us chose not to take that path even though we have the experience and are qualified to do so.

So maybe next time the MME decides to give us feedback, they'll give US the benefit of the doubt and be kind rather than rude and condescending.

Perfectly stated - and 100% true

[ In Reply To ..]
So sick of the baloon-headed "more qualified and experienced" baloney spewed out of the mouths of SOME of the MMEs.

Gimmie a break.

Maybe we do - BeyondFrustrated

[ In Reply To ..]
I always try to leave a kind word, a bit of encouragement, a helpful comment. And I DO know what those documents looked like before the MTs/MEs cleaned them up, because, like you, I'm also an MT/ME who has seen the mess that is VR. We are all in the same boat and should show a little kindness instead of stereotyping and ripping each other apart.
You stereotyped... - and by the way,
[ In Reply To ..]
You do not have to be a tier 3 to be an MME. My friend is a tier 2.
Not a job I'd ever take - AppreciatetheMT
[ In Reply To ..]
Why would anyone take an MME job? They talk it up like its the next step after a tier III but seems to me like it is more a few steps back!
Right? I make double per line what she listed - and dont have all difficult dictators!
[ In Reply To ..]
Why would I drop down to 3 cpl, and then not even get all of that 3 cpl.
What do you mean - and then not even get all of - that 3 cpl? nm

"It was finally disclosed to me yesterday that 1 QA line is only counted as 0.43 of a line!!!!"

I guess that means you dont even get 3 cpl iff you are only paid 3/4 of a line.
agree. MME=Sucker. Many of us are just as qualified - but smart enough to refuse the offer.
[ In Reply To ..]
Many MME's who post here complained how their pay went down when becoming an MME so why would anyone fall for such an offer. Out of fear of being eliminated if you don't? Hogwash. You fell for their game hook, line, and sinker.
whose the smart one now? - thats a thinker
[ In Reply To ..]
The MME who thinks they are so highly qualified and experienced - or - the MT who says "bunk that!"
I didnt get choice about MME. I was qa at bought out MTSO. - Came to MM and automatically SM
[ In Reply To ..]
became MME with the switch. But I for one think MTs will become fewer at MM and being an MME is best bet for keeping job (until you find something better)
That still doesn't make sense. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
If you're doing 8 hrs a day at 3 cpl as MME and it's the best bet for keeping job because MTs will be phased out, it still makes more sense to be MT than MME. I'm a tier III MT as well, and even if I lose my job with MM before I find something else, my UEB will be higher than MME because I make much more than 3 cpl.

IMO, the MME position is just a way for MM to phase out all MTs and keep the pay at 3 cpl permanently.

I'm not trying to bash MMEs. I'm just trying to point out an eventual outcome according to your current circumstances.
wouldn't it be based on overall income? - MME
[ In Reply To ..]
I also get 10 for transcription and 6 for SR. I get 3 for all the lines included in every QA job. Wouldn't the UE office look at the bottom line, the dollar amount on my check, and not how much per line?
can't imagine why the dislike - on this one
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't usually pay attention to likes/dislikes but I can't see anything to dislike about this post.

As MME, I dont leave feedback. Most MTs dont read it - anyway. nm

True. My TSC send email about MTs having 100s of unread - feedback. So why bother? nm

Switched to MME and it is easier than MT, IMHO - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
At least on the account I am on. When doing MT the reports come in a jumbled up mess. I love being able to fill in a blank that the MT has put in context for me. I may only get 0.43% of lines on that report but so what, I fill in a couple of blanks and I am done 10 seconds later.

Apparently I don't work on an Off shore account because I haven't gotten any reports with 60 blanks (other than a couple from a clearly inexperienced MT in way over their head).

Anyway, the reports that have to be 100% QA'd are sweet and clean. I couldn't be happier with my choice to move to MME.

No matter what your opinion about MMEs, the fact - remains that 3 cents a line

[ In Reply To ..]
is nowhere near what an MME should be compensated. No one should be paid such a low amount for what is required of the MME job. I don't know how MM gets away with this crap. I for one will never become an MME because of the lousy pay. MM makes it sound like a promotion but the pay is not.

I think they way they get away with it, is there is more VR - than anything. nm

[ In Reply To ..]
It sounds low but that 3 cpl for the report even if only 1 word had a QA marker, but then there are those reports with 25 blanks! I get more reports with 1 or 2 words with QA makers. If a full proof, it is 4 cpl.
You do realize that on 3cpl qa if a major error is found anywhere - in report, you are responsible, right? nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
No, I thought you were only responsible for the blanks and - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
only responsible for the whole report if it is a full proof job at 4 cpl. If that ever happened to me as an MME, I would definitely fight it. They need the rules clearly defined somewhere - that would be nice.
Just ask you TCM. You would definately be responsible for - a major or critical error. And have SM
[ In Reply To ..]
you noted you get not much 4 cpl qa. Heck, why not send everything to qqa, you will be held responsible for the entire report if there are critical errors, and for just 3 cpl. That's right, MM, save that penny.

well, isnt that becuse you just fill in the blanks - you dont redo the whole report

[ In Reply To ..]
If there is 1 blank in a 200 line report, why would you get paid for 200 lines? You should get paid for the blank, but not all the other lines.

This is exactly my gripe with MM. We only need to fill blanks, - but if a major error is found SM

[ In Reply To ..]
ANYWHERE in the report, we are held responsible for that. I have gone around and around with many TCMs about this. They never have a good excuse why this is and how could it possibly be fair. They always claim another call to take, when they see they cant talk their way around this.

Try getting a 3 minute ILP report with 60 blanks in it. - nm

All the nonsense to it, like "highly qualified" and "highly experienced," to the discussion instead of just asking a question.

Why does the question have to be posed as if the MTs are so inferior to the MMEs higher level of knowledge?

Huh? What do you mean? No following - nm

I'm a tier 3 and I wouldn't take your job for love nor money. We just had a conference call and while we were discussing the auditing process, I heard the kind of standards the QA people are held to; they get marked off if they DON'T mark off the tiniest nit-picky thing. So while it's difficult to not take it personally, I'm going to try to do just that.

What we need to do is pick a few short qa reports, - c&p the body of the text into SM

[ In Reply To ..]
a word document. Be sure to note the job number. Then the usual, use Word's word count funtion, the characters and spaces. Divide by 65 and that is the unbiased line count for that job. Ask your TCM to give you the count for just that job. Compare to what you calculated and there ya go. Do this with a couple of short jobs. Please be sure to post results.

I went from being a QA for years to an MME & get maybe - sm

3 or 4 QA reports a day. The rest of the time, I do ASR all day long. Needless to say, I'm not happy.

I was under the impression that QA (full proof) and QQA (quick proof) were not counted at all in the LPH. I thought only straight typing and VR made up your LPH.

I get all MT work for first half of shift then all MME. - Work second shift. NM

MMEs

So a girl I worked with at a local hospital here now works for MQ, and I found out she is an MME, so I ask her, what exactly is an MME, she says she gets what we send to QA, corrects it, and types.  So....basically they are just QA people? But, don't QA people type too?   I just don't understand this MME position.  Any MMEs here that can tell me what an MME is (and I know it stands for Master Medical Editor, for the smarties)?  ...

Just got a request to test for the MME position.  I'm tier 3, 99% accuracy, and I've been here for 7 years, but I didn't take the test when they first offered it because I knew that my pay would take a nosedive.  I have a feeling they will be getting rid of all the regular MT/MEs shortly and keep only MMEs on board, but if the pay is actually worse, then it may be better to be given the boot.  I was told by CCM that it is mostly transcription work and not so mu ...
