My BOB is finding out restricting PT to 28 - hours or less, not a great idea. sm

PT has been offered to work anything less than 37 hours. Do ya think they will reinstate PT PTO as the next bribe to get more PT'ers to work?
I doubt that will fly with King Shaw et al - but I could wish

Anyone with 30 or greater hours a week is considered full time by law and then, by law, MM would have to pay 50% of that person's health insurance premium.
The new law has made employers choose between overtime for full timers or health insurance premiums for more employees. Unfortunately, this is certainly an incentive to send more work offshore.
They - do not

need any incentive to send work offshore. That is their goal. The only thing stopping them from sending what is here is that some hospitals do not want to go offshore. It has nothing to do with the new healthcare laws.
What I care about is the fact my hours were cut and I can't work extra. No doubt they took away our PTO to pay for the special employees who get 50% health care premiums paid. I am curious what percentage of MTs are full time.
That - should

read all companies have further excuse to blame it on. They have been cutting hours and jobs for years, nothing new about that concept. The only thing new is the excuse for doing it.
I think from here on out, they won't - sm

be "offering" anything to us, only taking away. The two reasons I've stayed is I had a good amount of PTO since I've been here so long & the affordable insurance. I've taken a massive cut in pay over the years with ASR, but I've stayed for the benes. Now they've taken some of my PTO, and there's talk of insurance hikes next year. It's looking like they want us to just leave. I feel like a stray dog hanging around that they're trying to run off.
You - are

exactly correct on your comparison. When they run us all off, woof woof, they can convince the hospitals that there are no qualified MTs in the US in order to strengthen their case on why they should allow their work to go to India.

When I first started here ages ago even full timers were not offered PTO. Then gradually we got PTO after not having it for approx 8 years and then I went part time about 1 year ago and we had PTO and now gone again. Just biding my days until retirement. I have been doing this job way too long.
Not a good idea cause TAT suffers and they have to beg - for PTers to work extra, SM

And I, for one, will not do it. They take my PTO and they think I will jump when they call. Noooo, dont think so.

Hi Everyone,
Right now the company I work for hardly has any work. I am thinking about sending out a letter to local clinics and also maybe putting out an ad on craigslist for transcription work. Have you tried this? I have questions:
What things do I have to consider? How do I charge people (I know I can do line count in INstantText and figure out line count and cost)-is 10 CPL a good place to start? Are there other costs I need to factor in? How about tax ...
For those "low-talkers" who won't spell the PA/PACs name, combined with my endless list of names, does anyone know the easiest way to just do a generic search for all of them?
It's exhausting!
Thanks, y'all! ...
I need to find a new job. The company I'm working for is replacing med transcriptionists with voice recognition and electronic health records. This is not the first time this has happened either, . . it happened at another hospital I worked for. The company's response was "you can go work for the service." Yeah, right, at half the pay. After working at a good in-house hospital job for nine years, I realize how home MTs are so mistreated. And, ...
I have asked this before and got an answer but do not see what was suggested I would be able to see. After I have requested a day off in schedule source, if I go into the "days off" page, where is the approval? I see a yellow box that says "request" but do not see anything about the answer to the request. I also checked my calendar - is there something on the calendar about it? Last time I made a request I found out at the last minute I did indeed have it off, but had not ...

I graduated from a medical transcription course last April. I still haven't found a position. I have tried everything! I have sent out resumes, flyers, letters to Dr. offices. Hi,
Does anyone have advice for a "newbie" transcriptionist finding work? It seems all the job ads want minimum 2 years experience. I've just completed a medical transcription course and would appreciate any advise on finding work. Thanks!
Happy Easter!

I am an MT considering going to school for coding. I have been reading the message boards of the coding professional organization and found it to be full of comments from new certified coders who can't find jobs without experience, and some have been looking for over a year. I am leaving the MT field after only 6 years due to salaries going into the tank with SR. I think coding would be a good fit for me, but hate to spend thousands of dollars and a year of school time on ...

Dictated: MRI reported as positive for minimal s/l truckation (truh-KAY-shun) of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus, possibly secondary to prior injury. No displaced meniscal fragment was identified.
I was thinking "truncation" (shortening), but does that fit in context? I have not heard with regard to menisci before.

I recently obtained my Certificate from a community college for Medical Transcription/Coding. I also work full time at our county mental health clinic, scheduling appointments for patients, answering telephones and transcribing reports for 3 psychiatrists (2 speaking in broken Indian dialect). I have submitted many resumes online to all types of transcription agencies and physician's offices. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get a job as a remote transcriptionist and if you have any ...
I have been transcribing for 31 years. Hospital laid us off in 2008, went with our contract provider, then Nuance took over her employees. I have been looking for a job for over a year and finally found one. Starting on Jan. 6, I will be working for a local pathology office doing minimum transcription as well as other things, meaning no more sitting all day long looking at a dumb computer. It is 8-5 M-F. They are starting me out at $13.50 an hr. The only problem I have is Nuance wants me to give ...
Have any of you had a hard time finding work as an MT because of age discrimination? I have run into this for the very first time this year. I have not worked for a few months because they laid off a lot of MTs at the company I worked for; mainly because they promised something they could not give. We would have 4 or 5 accounts and no work on almost all of them. We would be left scrambling for work and got the worst work possible. The supervisor at night watched the ...
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find a QC/QA position? I find it's rare to find them here or on any job boards. I am moving to a very very large city in March and was thinking about soliciting dr's offices for independent contracting jobs for medical transcription. I've been employed by nationals for the past 11 years and earlier worked for a couple dr's offices independently, but got word of them through the hospital I worked at. Can anyone advise me the best way to approach a dr's office for transcription? I'm thinking about trying to pick some up and do the wo ...
