Mmodal part-time job - Anon

Posted: Jan 01, 2013

Question: I was hired by MModal to begin a part-time evening job doing a cardio account on the Cornerstone platform. I receved all the equpiment and hooked it all up (by myself) and had "orientation" last week telling me that I now had 14 hours of Training on the system supplied by instructional videos showng me how to use the system, timeclock, etc. As I will be paid on a production basis, I'm already a little skeptical because the Corrnerstone platform seems very cumbersome with a lot of steps to take before I even begin to type one word (and earn 1 penny). Am I wrong about that? It is something that becomes automatic and you can fly through the more you do or AM I spinning my wheels for nothing here? I need to make about $20 an hour at this job just to make it worth my while (I type about 150 wmp and have been transcribing for over 22 years at many different hospitals) !! Am I dreaming?? I kept all the boxes the equpment came in just in case...and I'm already BORED to tears with the training instructions and have another 10 hours at least to go.  I keep putting it off because I dread it so much!!! Can anyone tell me their experience .. I need some encouragement!!  thanks

If you think you can make $20 an hour PART-TIME you may want to reconsider. Don't think it is possible to make that much in this profession anymore, and besides can they guarantee you will not run out of work, like all the other accounts for this company? I would make sure you will be kept busy. Really cumbersome platform I think.

Thanks for your input. Yes, the more I "train" the more I am realizing that Cornerstone is not a "money-making" platform. I was hoping that because I was working late night, I would have guaranteed work, but maybe not!!!

I liked Cornerstone. I worked on it for years and - made real good money.

$20/hr days are over -- Mmodal made sure of that. You have to enter tons of info, search for CCs, addresses, referring physicians, etc., and never get paid anything for that. I spend probably 1/3 of my time searching and entering info I'm not paid for, so now I'm lucky to make $9/hr. I used to make really good money at this job...

On a different note, didn't they just announce that they will be doing away with all those platforms within the next year & sending everything to DocQscribe?

[ In Reply To ..]
I have never heard that they are going to move everything to DocQcribe. That would be nice. One of my backup accounts is not DQ and it is very ugly. I cannot get any speed up, no client profile and one time I made a mistake, which I did not know about until they pointed it out to me and could not find it on my instructions. Thanks.

Yes, I was seeing an awful lot of "go into this screen and pull down this, then go to that screen.." etc etc. Not conducive to making any money! I figured $20 was "wishful thinking"!! If they are switching to DocuScribe they didn't mention it to me. That might be an easier platform to work with, don't you think? Thanks for your help!!!

If you need to make 20 per hour then enjoy training at 10. - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I came onboard training at 10 per hour and thought that would be the least I would make. Turns out I never saw that wage again. EVER. There are so many variables, not the least of cannot hear (bad sound), to bad dictators (cesspool), to bad platform, to unpaid duties. Be glad the US enforces min wage, b/c that is what is the least you can make, and that is what you should be considering... not a 20.00 per hour figure. Not trying to upset you. Telling you the truth. I am leaving this company because I could not afford to have 2 jobs at once and school. And this job will never ever give me the living wage I need because of the variables. Of course, you need to remember the 4 cpl VR will be 99% of your day... good luck to you.

Thank you everyone for your honest and candid answers! I was beginning to see the handwriting on the wall but thought maybe I was just being Negative about having to take 14 hours of my time to go thru all this MUMBO-JUMBO training CRAP!! In all my years of work, I never had a 14 hour training course! That concerned me..how easy is this work gonna be? I thought Meditech was miserable to work on...its a DREAM compared to cornerstone!!! YIKES!!!

M*Modal part-time - Cornerstoner!

[ In Reply To ..]
CS was the brilliant idea of Spheris and it was horrible and still is. Not made up by MTs, but by IT people and you can certainly tell. Keep those boxes ready and BTW, when I was hired, I was told I would work on an account that had 80% op notes; LIE! They didn't even have an account like that. If you are doing the cardiology docs in Littleton, CO, that is a good account, I hope MM does mess it up for you. As for the $20/hr; highly doubt it, unless you get most of that account and not 3 trillion others with specs out the whazoo.

LOL!!! that's why I figured I would ask all of you who work or have worked for them. Dont' feel like wasting 14 hours of my time to learn something I'm going to be lucky to make less than $10/hour doing!! I can go to Walmart and have them give me a blue vest. I bet It won't take me 14 hours to take THEIR training course! and I'd probably be making the same amount of money when all is said and done!

They don't provide "live" training? SM - Luluwu

[ In Reply To ..]
I work on that system and it's not
"do it yourself". It's cumbersome beyond belief. Whatever you do, don't use that laminated card they provide. Just learn the basics, but there is so much to learn.

Dont they provide live..... - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Nope...no live training..it is all done via videos and screen shots with step-by-step instructions for EVERYTHING!! Id rather have a ROOT CANAL than suffer thru endless hours of this so-called "Training course"!! LIke I said, i saved all the boxes everything came in..The screen is MICROSCOPIC...about 14 inches!! I'm going to go blind for sure!!

$20 an hour needed - outahere

[ In Reply To ..]
Keep that number for UPS handy. You'll NEVER make $20 an hour at MM or any other transcription company. In fact, you'll be lucky if you can get minimum wage without killing yourself. MM does NOT keep you busy on the account they initially give you. You'll be all over the country and thrown into a typing pool. If you have any opportunity to find another job locally where you can go into the office every, do yourself a big favor - TAKE IT.

Thanks for the advice..and believe me, i have never stopped looking for another job even AFTER MM hired me. Just had a bad feeling about it ...and after all my replies, I know why!

I make 20 an hour on DQS and used to make 20 an - hour on Cornerstone.

[ In Reply To ..]
20 an hour is not impossible. That has been my PTO rate for many years so that has been my average production rate on both systems.

At 4 cpl VR and 8.5 straight? - There are many variables (sm)

[ In Reply To ..]
A brand new hire is only going to make 4 cpl no matter what Tier, and the HR people that do the hiring do not even work for MModal. It's called "the right thing" or something like that, so they can hardly answer real hard and fast questions and are vague about their answers when asked about volumes of work.

If the work volumes are there and you're not interrupted 15 times a day for new account instructions, I guess you could make $20.00 an hour but not with 4 cpl and the garbage they deal ya' which was all ESLs in one long paragraph and you have to split it all up and make headings, etc. The account specs for the Cornerstone accounts I was on were 20 pages long and then add to that at least 5 times a week getting a new account spec that is ultra-important, etc. Add to that 15 dictators per account with specific wants and needs, and you're not doing too well if you know what I mean.

I'm surprised they are training you on Cornerstone as the company switched over to a new program called DocQScribe about 2 months ago. Cornerstone IS cumbersome and you will never make $20 per hour at Mmodal. Lucky if you make minimum wage there. There is so much beforehand work to do with the demographic page (patient name, job number, etc.), that actually takes longer than typing the report in most cases. Mmodal is set up to slow you down so you DON'T make a lot of money. Read some of the posts on this site. Everyone hates it and is trying to get out. With the economy now, it is hard to find another job, but I would advise you to get out as soon as you can. I worked for MModal for 10 years. In the beginning, it was Spheris, and I made decent money, but even in the best of times, never $20 per hour, not even close. Hope this answers your questions.

Yes, everyone's comments have been very very helpful!I can't thank all of you enuf! I hate the thought of tearing all this computer crap down that I had to put together myself and mail it back to them but it will be time well spent...unlike working for these guys, it sounds like to me!! Thank you, all of my "sisters" out there!! you're the best! I have read posts were people think everyone on this site is so NEGATIVE but I don't see it that way..I call it REALITY..and sometimes it just ain't pretty!!!

good luck! I would love to make $20 an hour here. Been working for them for about 6 years; never got close to making that much an hour but a lot closer these days; its really pathetic how much it has changed over the years; my income went down 1/2 in those years.

Yes, I've been doing this for over 22 years now and it just makes me SICK how they treat all of us now! Again, it's not about patient care one bit..it's all about the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR and how much the hospitals and doctors can save. A person I know has her own transcription company and when one company wanted her to take the account for Peanuts, she told them "NO. My girls are the best and I will not insult them by asking them to work for what you want to pay us" (She is also a transcriptionist, can you tell?) funny thing, she said they gave her the account and has had it ever since!! we need more BOSSES like her!!!

20-40 dollars an hour at Keystrokes. Apparently they get per report and are able to transcribe 20-40 reports an hour. Just a thought.

Cornerstone is clunky at best and the PC they send is very slow. The training is are old videos and don't explain much.

Even if you get work on Cornerstone for now it won't last as all Cornerstone accounts will be on the preferred MModal platform called Fluency by the end of 2013. That's why there's no work. The managers are taking their sweet time and picking their favorites to train to Fluency first before the new hires, so good luck hanging in there while you wait on work all day and night. Doesn't matter which shift they put you on, you will be checking constantly for work or using up PTO or taking time without pay.

Part-time might work a little better than full-time but you'll never make $20.00 an hour as the Cornerstone accounts are tedious with lots of additional e-mails everyday with additional account instructions and wants and needs from the clients on a daily basis.

You don't need to rip your equipment out but just be prepared to have your head spin on that platform.

How do - you

[ In Reply To ..]
know that about Cornerstone going to Fluency? I have not heard that and I work on it and am with no work. Not saying I don't believe you, just wondering how you know.

Because before I resigned due to no work we - had a call for account specs (sm)

[ In Reply To ..]
and our manager told us all of the Cornerstone accounts would be going to Fluency by the end of 2014. They were phasing it in slowly as not to be too upsetting to the Cornerstone clients and that the transition takes time. I heard this in October after the layoffs of CCMs.

I offered to be trained on the Fluency platform and was told to hang in there since many others were being trained first from Cornerstone and that I'd have more work since a huge account went global that I was hired for. I still had no work even after the first ones were trained on Fluency and I had to give up "hanging on."

I'm not telling a fib. She said ALL Cornerstone accounts would be on Fluency by the end of 2013 phased slowly over and MTs were going to be phased in training also to Fluency.

The weird thing is that the ones that were going through training for Fluency in October and November were put on new accounts, so I guess once trained on Fluency you're switched over to a new region and/or TSM or whatever. I don't really know much about it as I was denied training!
My first statement should say by the end of 2013 - all Cornerstone accounts will be on Fluency. nm

[ In Reply To ..]
sharing that. Like I was saying, it wasn't that I didn't believe you, just that I hadn't heard that. All I know is that my account has no work anymore and they did not go to India. Pretty sad that they don't use the ones on the account to train the Fluency.

Amy said it in the last conference call. - nm
