MacKenzie's web cast - outtahere

Posted: Apr 01, 2015

Just curious, did anyone listen to this webcast?  What a joke.   More importantly, was anyone notified ahead of time that it was going to occur so we could submit our questions? Guess I missed it because I would have a ton of questions for him.  why are we getting paid slave wages, when do we get our vacation time back?  Why are overseas employees treated like gold and we're treated like sh**!?  As usual, we get NO INPUT.  They do NOT want to hear from us at all  Imagine that!

I hope someone listened... - Old MT

who'll post a summary here. If I'm not being paid for it, I'm not going to listen it.

Said you get paid so, Im gonna put it on and - do something else..

However, it sounds like they want to dominate coding too. He never talked about trying to satisfy their MTs, it basically was all about taking over other fields like coding.

Truth about coding - Ex-coder trainee

[ In Reply To ..]
I was one of the students accepted into their coder training program last March, 2014. At the time we had to sign a contract and in that contract it said that as long as we passed coder training we would go onto coder apprentice and if we passed coder apprentice we would go onto a full-time coder job. We were supposed to be done with training in July 2014. Well jump ahead to February 2015, we were still in coder training and received an e-mail that they were ending the training, that we were all considered to have passed coder training but we would NOT be going onto coder apprentice because even if we passed there would be no jobs available when we were done. FYI coder apprentice pays same as coder so of course they didn't want to move us on to that. They told us that the reason there wouldn't be a job for us is because sales for their coding service were not what they had expected. Now I'm sure you are all scratching your heads because 2/24 we got the company update that said "we more than doubled our sales goal for Coding Services." However the e-mail we got informing us about the coder training program being cancelled said "Our coding service sales were not as strong in the last half of 2014 as we had expected." SO which is true? It can't be both. This is the company you work for. 2 e-mails less than 2 weeks apart, stating the exact OPPOSITE about coder sales. So basically we spent 10 months of our lives, and we all had to do work outside of working hours (which I didn't mind because I thought it would be worth it), to end up with no job and they were telling us how great it was that we got coder training. Whose going to hire us as a coder because we took M*Modal's training program. Sadly this is the company we all work for, they obviously flat out lie. The other disappointing part was that we were NEVER told that there might not be a job. It was always, as long as you pass you move on to the next step. It was never presented as maybe you will have a job, it was presented as you will. I haven't listened to the broadcast yet, but I find it interesting that you say he is talking about taking over other fields like coding. They don't even have enough coding accounts available to give jobs to those of us who they paid to train in coding, so it was a complete financial loss. Yeah, I see a big future for you in the coding field.

Doubled Sales 2 x 0 = 0 - They were telling the truth

[ In Reply To ..]
They probably didn't make any sales last year, so as double zero is still zero, they can honestly say they doubled sales!

unbelievable. i'm sorry you had to go through all that. i believe very little of what i'm told these days. i'm about as motivated as a sloth. they lead better lives anyway.

Hate to say it, but we warned you. - It is, after all

I dont care it didnt work out. I got paid to learn only had to type 20 hours - non disgruntled ex coding student
[ In Reply To ..]
a week. I'm actually happy with my accounts and my HSDM so I didn't mid going back to typing full time. What the other poster didn't tell you that most of this hinges on whether or not ICD10 will be implemented later this year. If so we will most likely be brought back into the program. If not so what I'm on a different path anyway, working towards a career in a different field. Personally i'm going to go with the flow and be glad for the break from typing full time while it lasted. And for those who said I told you so, yep you are right, that's why I didn't get emotionally invested in coding. But I did enjoy the paid training and the bonus!! So it worked out for me, at least.
coder training - they still lied
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, ICD-10 was supposed to go into effect October 2014 and got moved to October 2015 and they couldn't have predicted that. However, that was announced last May. So they had from May 2014 until February 2015 to inform us that this change may mean we would not have a job. They never once said that. When the announcement came that ICD-10 was postponed we had an immediate conference call and were ASSURED this would have no effect on us. They just switched to training us in ICD-9. So I stand by my statements that we were lied to. Also, I liked my account I had for transcription and my HSDM for the past 3 years. I had a primary that I worked on almost exclusively and I loved it, rarely got my secondary and HSDM was great. The day after they dropped us from the coding program I got taken off that account, moved to a POD where I know work on at least 15-20 different accounts, spanning 10 different states. The one I get the most is the worst account I have worked on in my 15 years as a transcriptionist. I can barely make minimum line counts. I now make minimum wage which I have done since I was in high school. So M*Modal promised me a new good career, and a lot better pay. I got none of that and now my transcription pay has been cut almost in half and I now make minimum wage, just like the local high schoolers who work in fast food. Unfortunately due to scoliosis I cannot stand for long periods of time so most fast food jobs I can't do or I would be done at the local McDonalds getting an application. Basically M*Modal kicked me down by canceling the coding program, and then kicked me while I was down by moving me to this POD and cutting my pay almost in half. Thanks for the great opportunity.
I am sorry your experience was a bad one. Mine was not - I look forward to placement in CAP

Coder training - Weigh your options
[ In Reply To ..]
How much training do you have in ICD-9, do you think it's enough to pass a certification exam? Maybe you could try to get certified and get a coding job elsewhere; facilities are hiring now to close out their ICD-9 coding before ICD-10 starts and no one knows if that date will be pushed back again. Otherwise, if you want to code, maybe you could enroll in a legitimate program and get out of M-Modal all together. I'm sorry they did this, but you have other choices and they don't have to involve fast food. In regard to CAC, a lot of places already use it, but they still need coders. Good luck.

Unbelievable! - But yet...like someone else

[ In Reply To ..]
said...this is MModal. I noticed during the webcast, he talked about what he called CAC = computer assisted coding. Sounds like coders will become coding editors...eventually.

yes apprentice pay is the same as coder but you get that fat bonus - Ex HDS2Coder

[ In Reply To ..]
That was the incentive for completing it. I enjoyed my bonus for completing the HDS2Coder program and I am sure you did also. Plus we got a free CPT book out of it.
Just wish they had been honest - Ex-coder trainee
[ In Reply To ..]
I just wish we would have known we would not go into apprentice or get a job. I worked really hard in this course and I feel it was for nothing. I don't think we will ever go into coder apprentice. They lied about their coding sales in that e-mail by saying they were low but then the company got an e-mail saying they were double. So since they lied in the e-mail to coders about their sales, we have no reason to believe they were telling the truth that someday they may bring it back. I don't understand why you are happy about the free CPT book since we never got to the CPT training part. What are you doing with the book? We are not trained in CPT and even if you read the book I doubt anyone could train themselves. It doesn't even have the codes. Plus who would hire us based on having read the CPT book but never being trained in it. My book is collecting dust in the basement. You do realize it was an accident that we even got those. Obviously once again with this company the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. They cancelled coder training and then several weeks later we get a CPT training book. Nuts!
Not even the powers that be knew that we would not have gone into - apprentice or get a job
[ In Reply To ..]
do you really think that was their goal? To spent thousands of dollars on training and educators and equipment (let's not forget the extra monitors and systems that were sent out). Mistakes happen. It was their first attempt at a training program and it failed. Miserably. They learned from it, we learned from it. It has been months since this transpired. I think there is a larger issue at hand if you are still upset about the program. Coming on here is not going to change anything, it will only bring about more "I told you so" comments.

I added the completion of the program to my resume. Future employers do not have to know the events that transpire. All they see is that I have a certificate of completion of a nearly year-long program. That proves that I stuck with something and completed it. It looks good on a resume and i'm thankful to have it.

If you think fast food would be more lucrative then by all means help yourself. If not then pull yourself up by the bootstraps, dust of that resume and get your resume out to places you would truly enjoy working. I for one still love working for MM, believe it or not. As I said before, I still believe they will call us back into coding. They did not ask us to send all the equipment back for a reason.
How do you expect me to be okay with my pay being cut in half - Ex-coder trainee
[ In Reply To ..]
I was taken off my transcription account because of being in the coder training program. They put me full-time on that horrible account that they made the coders work on at Christmas. My original transcription account that I was on when I entered coder training I really liked and could get good lines. Now I am on that horrible account and in a POD. I know I was moved to this account full-time because they needed more people on it and I was already trained in it. The reason I was trained in it was because I was in the coder program. They thought it was a good idea to pause the coder program and have us work on this account. So because of that I got trained out that account. You probably worked on it too. Hope you loved it as much as you loved the way the way the coder program went because new HSDM is always asking for overtime, even when there is not company mandated OT which means we need more people. So if you worked on it back it December don't be surprised to get transferred to it. On my old account I made $12-$14 an hour, now I am making minimum wage which is $7.65 in my state. Please tell me why I should be thankful for that.
No I was not put on that account. If I had been I would already - be working another job, just like several
[ In Reply To ..]
of the other girls that got put on that account.
Guess I was told another lie - Ex-coder trainee
[ In Reply To ..]
When I complained in December I was told that all coder students were working on this account, and we had to do it to continue in program, but you are saying you didn't work on the account, so I guess they lied to me again. Its easy to say "I would already be working another job" but not easy for everyone to do. We live in a very small farm town surrounded by other very small farm towns. Not a lot of jobs here. I have been looking for jobs daily since this happened and sent out resumes. THere are lots of people on this board who are trying to get a new job and can't. You seem to think it is easy so you should inform them how to do it to help them. The other coding students leaving to get other jobs just shows that they did not have confidence in coder apprentice coming back either. You said in your earlier post that I should go work in fast food but in the original post that you responded to I said I can't because I have scoliosis and cannot stand for very long at all, so thank you for telling me to go get a job that I specifically said I couldn't do due to a disability. I am also looking into going to school but that takes money, eventually if I stay on minimum wage I will be able to get financial aid but I have to be able to show more than a 2 month history of minimum wage and it has only been 2 months since program was cancelled
I never said you should work in FF you brought that up - I said if you felt it was more lucrative
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe it was all coders in your HDSM's POD. Not all PODS were put on that account. The accounts I have are always so backlogged they can't move anyone anywhere.
I wasn't in a POD - Ex-coder trainee
[ In Reply To ..]
I wasn't in a POD. I had 1 primary and 1 secondary. Like them both. Did mostly my primary. Now because that account they made me train on due to being in coder program I was trained it in when they needed someone. The day after coder program got cancelled they moved me to this account full-time which is in a POD. So due to coder program I am no longer on account I like and am now in a POD. I had never even heard about the PODs before coder program was cancelled. yes I did bring up fast food but I also said I couldn't physically do it due to my disability so you shouldn't have said I should go do that if I thought it was more lucrative because it doesn't matter if I think it is more lucrative or not since I physically cannot do that kind of job.

Doesn't matter - MT

My mom has breast and uterine cancer. She used to work for MedQuist 12 years ago and has joked that of the two of us, I've got the worse problem to deal with since I still work there LOL.

A former friend who worked for MedQuist went through a similar situation where her mother had cancer, but her supervisor was a bit of an airhead and sent out an email that she was the one with cancer. To help her mom, she took a leave of absence and one day she comes home to find a message on her answering machine (that's how old this story is, since we all still had answering machines) from some stupid teen phone jockey: "We know you're dying, but we could really use some extra on your accounts." She recorded it and kept it forever to remind her of her days with this company. She quit that day and started her own company after her mom had recovered.

Take care Mom2Huskies!
Actually Mmodal sucks more than cancer. - mom2huskies
[ In Reply To ..]
I agree that working here is harder, LOL. There are days I wish they would just let me go so at least I could get UE. Lately I have been thinking about looking into disability. Actually I consider working for Mmodal more of a disability than cancer.

I have also learned to not have my health insurance through Mmodal.

For now I am hanging in there.

I seriously would have pulled my hair out if he had said "Does that make sense?" one more time!!! Someone needed to hold up a cue card and tell him to get rid of that phrase!
