MQ Benefits - Good coverage? - considering FT

Posted: Jan 17, 2011

Hi,

I'm a bit frustrated right now as MQ Central -Departments-Human Resources - Benefits must be down!  Are there any FT employees who can tell me if MQ benefits are decent?

Thanks for any info.  I have sent several emails and I figured I'd probably get a response faster here first (lol)!

They are busy sending out emails tellng everyone how they are going to cut their paychecks some more. I cannot tell you if the bennies are any good but I can tell you with 20 years experience I would make more money at WalMart as a cashier.

decent bennies - FTMT

First of all, you maybe can find them better or cheaper somewhere else, but from what I have read on the other boards and the state of the economy who knows. As a FT employee I get about 23 days of PTO per year (that is over 3 weeks!). Not to mention the flexibility of swapping hours or working before or after my shift to make up time so I don't have to take PTO. I know some people who actually take scheduled days off and work extra for their other jobs and make extra money on top of the PTO. I also have long-term disability and short-term disability which is based on what I make, so years ago I paid a bunch for it, but now it is only a couple of bucks a pay period. If I would happen to slam my hand in the door or need surgery and be out for an extended amount of time I will still get paid after my PTO runs out.

As far as the health/dental, it is decent, not great, but decent, but it also depends on how often you go to the doctor and how many prescriptions you have. Physicals and health maintenance were free and with my family we never used up the $1000 deductible MQ paid. We were able to find insurance
cheaper through my husband's company just recently, but not everyone has that option. If you are just covering yourself the employee only option is relatively cheap. I must say that MQ did not raise premiums in the last 3 years. However, you need to take into account they have cut our ASR pay during that time too.

There is a 401K option, but MQ has stopped contributing and you may find better options through an IRA.

Hope this helps.

I thought we only got 10 days PTO per year? - excited

It goes up with time? I hope so!!! I thought it was only 10 days per year EVER.

more than 10 - FTMT

According to the Harmonization policy from 2006 it states for the first 2 years of FT you get 15 days of PTO and after that it increases to 18 days. However, I know I took more than 3 weeks vacation last year and still carried over PTO for this year. Now granted I also worked OT and that adds into the PTO and I swapped some hours so perhaps it actually felt like more time off than 18 days.

I also know that Harmonization policy was based on a 24 pay period policy so perhaps with the new 26 pay period PTO is figured differently. I do know though that FT is definitely more than 10 days PTO.
Well that is the only good news I have heard in my - 7 years here at Q.

Thanks for sharing that!!!

PT to FT - Grateful for you

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question! I really appreciate it and plan on researching my options further. I finally got my sup to send me some info and HR said the MQCentral portion with the benefits info. is "under construction" ha! At least I am getting some answers now!

At Least Benefits Are Good--hahahahaha
Jul 12, 2011

So, just spent time on line and on the phone to make sure I understand my benefits.  After doing so, I will spend the day deciding whether or not to just quit outright.  Thank God I have nothing serious so far.  The rep told me just don't go to ER if it's anything like cough, etc or I have to pay more.  Told her at this point I won't go to the ER if I have a broken leg!  The hospital where I live must be used to this because they give me choices these day ...

Good Company With Benefits For New MT
Jul 21, 2013

I am currently working at a hospital as a Lab Assistant in Pathology. My job has many different responsibilities, but majority is transcription – which I love! I am trying to decide if I want to try becoming an at home medical transcriptionist. This is a huge decision/risk for me as I have been in my current position since 1999. I used to love my job, but as the years have passed, I have found myself disgusted to go to work. This is due to changes in personnel and too many people not ...

E&O Insurance Coverage For IC MTs

Does anyone know anything about E&O insurance coverage for IC MTs and if it will be required by government in the year 2010?  A recruiter told me this morning that her company would require this coverage since the U.S. government will require ICs to have this coverage in February of 2010.  Did I understand her correctly?  If so, does anyone have any idea how much this would cost? ...

Vacation, P.r.n., Per Diem Coverage?
Dec 14, 2009

I've been in this business for 30 years, but am under employed at the moment and am starting to get bored to tears with having so little work to do.  But, it seems that all of the ads that I see are looking for full time transcriptionists.  Surely there must be some companies or MTSOs somewhere who would need an MT to help with part time or per diem work, to help with vacation coverage or maybe for temporary work just to help clear up an occasional back log and such.  But, d ...

More Insurance Coverage Means
Jul 23, 2010

Sorry if this topic has been covered before, but I haven't been able to find a thread about it. If the health care reform means more Americans will be insured, then more Americans will be using doctor and hospital services, and there will be that much more transcription to do. Do you think this is right? Shouldn't there be a much bigger volume of transcription to be done, starting in a few years? ...

Want To Quit/insurance Coverage Q
Mar 12, 2014

Already checked with benefits and was told the paycheck covers the prior 2 weeks for insurance coverage.  If I quit does anyone know if my benefits are immediately stopped or if the company will finish out the month for insurance (or do I have to time it to allow $200 in pay for health, eyes, and dental to pay for the rest of the month)?  Really tired of this job and would like to quit by mid-April but before the 4/18 paycheck (which would cover 3/30 to 4/12) and the paycheck for the w ...

Family Insurance Coverage
Nov 07, 2014

Someone posted a message about a week ago that they were a single parent and could not afford the price of family coverage. Well, I am in the same boat. Family coverage with Nuance and most insurance companies I have checked out will cost me around 450.00 per month for just me and my son. But, I don't have to carry him under the same policy. If I take BCBSMA through Nuance and insure him under BCBSNC he is only 100.00 a month saving me around 250.00 dollars and month. I hope this helps ...
