I just received a notice from our State regarding jobs available because I filed for unemployment an - what jerks!

I'm not sure what you mean. Did they send you anything helpful? I thought you had to apply for so many jobs each week in order to maintain unemployment?

I realize that it is different in every state. Where I live, UE is only about a third of your gross, so that was enough to keep me looking for work. Also, I was required to show proof of 3 job searches a week, which could include in person interviews or on line applications. We were also required to attend a workshop for job seekers, which counted as one job search. A lot of people get placed in job training programs to learn new skills. They want you working, it is only meant as a temporary thing. I never received benefits because I found a job before my first check arrived. Also, they want proof of those job searches. If they follow through and found out you weren't telling the truth, you will have to pay back the money in addition to losing your benefits. Even if you find a part time job, you can collect partial UE.

thought when your on U/E it is mandatory you actually look for work. Ive never in my life filed so don't know.

UE is meant to keep your head above water until you find a new job. You are required to actively look/apply for a new job or you will lose this benefit. They don't want people mooching off the system.

To continue to receive UE, you have to document three job searches per week. You may randomly be asked to bring those in to the UE office at any time.

How is that "jerks?" Unemployment requires you to - be ready, willing and able to accept employment.

apparently the last half of my posting was deleted...it mentioned that the place we were just let go from had a big ad in the notice and it said they were hiring part time as well as full time. Sorry this was confusing, not my fault it got cut off.

Turns out my weekly benefit is MORE than I was making at MM before I got laid off, at least recently. I'm guessing it's because I made more before and slowly but surely my pay kept going down down down. Apparently the UI benefit is based on an average of what you made all year or something. All I know is that by getting laid off, I am actually going to make much more than I did as of late. Isn't that a hoot. Good riddance M-Modal! ...

I just found out that by law, MQ was supposed to file a claim with unemployment FOR me because my hours have been cut so much due to NJA. It is the LAW. In my state, it is the only way to get partial unemployment. ...

Has anyone ever applied for and received partial unemployment in New York state? I looked at their unemployment benefits website and it looks like if you work at all in a day you are considered to have worked that day and you can only get partial unemployment if you work less than 4 days a week? I have been struggling with very low work or no work for weeks now. I was hoping that I could apply for partial unemployment, but I'm not sure how I would qualify. TIA! ...

I got caught up in the ARM back in 2004 and 2005 and when it was time for my mortgage to adjust, the rates were higher, and my payment jumped to almost 900.00 dollars a month, and while that may sound low to some, how about at the same time, regular transcription went to VR, and companies started outsourcing, and my transcription pay went from about 45,000 a year to 29,000 to 30,000.
