End of pay period . . . - H

Posted: Jan 20, 2013

and I'm a little concerned.  My supervisor religiously sends out an email reminding people to approve their timecards, and this time - nothing.  I've put in the last of my PTO to cover all the hours I missed this week due to NJA (which is basically a failure of management to staff accounts correctly), and she still hasn't approved it.  She usually has by this time.

My concern is that MModal is going to start pulling stunts like some of these other companies and delay our paychecks.  Aren't there laws against that?  I've been here for nearly a decade I've never experienced anything quite like this.

Mine never - approves it

[ In Reply To ..]
until Sunday or Monday morning. Maybe she just had something come up.

Why are you using PTO when no work, and not - filing for unemployment?

[ In Reply To ..]
That is just crazy to me that you would burn through all your PTO because they failed to provide you with work.

It's too late now . . . - H

[ In Reply To ..]
because I already used it all up. I didn't even know that was an option until recently, and far be it from MModal to let anybody know that.

When asked the TSM stated unemployment was not an - option (sm) misleadMT

[ In Reply To ..]
and as a matter of fact, the TSM I had stated under no circumstances would you be able to file UE.

The last CCM I had never asked us to approve our timesheets, I guess she did it herself. New TSM was insistent upon us approving our own timesheets, and now I know why. It's so they can keep that as record that you specifically requested PTO instead of flexing or making up time or taking the option of no pay. It's so they can fight UE.

I know people are getting partial UE or say they are, but I hope it doesn't come back to bite them at some point and they have to pay it back to include penalties. That would be an awful experience.

Just really make sure it's the right move and find out for sure you'll never have to pay it back due to any fault of theirs or your own application. It varies by state. Just pointing some things out here is all.

Why - would

[ In Reply To ..]
you even ask your TSM. Amazing. You apply and the UE office will decide. Why would you have to pay it back? If you are supposed to work 40 hours and get 30,they have to pay the unemployment for the 10 you didn't work. Seriously, why do people ask TSMs things like that? What did you think they would say? They don't have the decency to lay people off because they want you to use your PT time and take time without pay instead of laying you off or paying the difference, which a lot of companies do, but this company is run by a bunch of snakes.
I am not the one that asked. Someone else did - on a phone call. (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
I am simply stating that are rules around UE that need to be followed. For my state, if they offered me work on another shift, I have to take it. If I refuse it, then I'm refusing work from said company. That's fraud on my part to then turn around and say there is no work.

At the bottom of my hire letter it states "While every effort is made to fulfull your schedule preference, modification may be required based upon our customers' requirements and you may be required to work shifts that are later in the day and on the weekend."

So your statement about no work during my schedule does not apply to me according to the offer letter for employment that I signed and returned. Maybe you signed something different. I don't know. But it does state it right there that they can change your scheduled hours according to the customer's needs. If they don't need you during your scheduled shift, but need you later or on the weekend, they have that right, as you did sign that letter on hire, or at least I did.
That is the key, they have to offer that shift or - work on that shift
[ In Reply To ..]
They have to ask you to move your schedule. If you say you cannot, and then file unemployment, that would be fraud.

If they never ask and just keep letting you run out, that is not fraud.
They are most definitely asking when they clearly - state you are welcome to flex. (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
That is your offer, right there. You are welcome to flex your so-called schedule and work later in the shift when you're needed. Are you saying your TSM and/or CCM has never said that you can "flex and make up time?"

I'm seriously not trying to argue. I'm trying to save some people from possibly having to pay back money if and/or when MModal decides to fight these claims. Just because UE says you are entitled doesn't mean the judge that looks at MModal's appeal will say you are entitled.

Again, do your research before listening to a bunch of MTs on a forum. Question what I'm saying even. I don't have a problem in the world with people doubting what I'm trying to say. I'm just simply trying to save someone from a lot of grief that could occur down the road.
They can say, you are welcome to flex - however,
[ In Reply To ..]
if there is no work when you are attempting to flex, then what? I have filled out Remedy tickets waiting for someone to tell me when to work, when is a good time to make up, no one ever does. That is what the policy says, TSM will contact you. I cannot be expected to check 24/7. I do check back occasionally, and on days off, and even send off emails asking for a good time to make up work, or to be routed work from another region, and get nothing. So dont sit here and put this all on the MT. I will fight them all the way to the end of the world if I have to. I have emails to prove I have asked for work and been told there is nothing I can give you.
Yep, you are right, - at least in my state. sm
[ In Reply To ..]
My family member works for our state's UE Dept and he told me the same thing--if offered a shift, no matter how bad, I have to take it or be denied UE benefits. Technically, in "good faith" (ha ha) the company is trying to remedy your situation, and they would probably win the case. If there is no work then either, then that's a different story. Each state has their own rules, so the best way to find out is to contact someone in your state's UE office or maybe even a newspaper columnist.

Of course they are going to say that. My CCM said that to - me also, and I have

[ In Reply To ..]
Filed for unemployment at least 4 times since being employed here (2002), and never had to pay back, and never had any problems. They made us EMPLOYEES. When I was statutory, I did not file, but not that I am an employee (2006), yes... they have to pay unemployment if there is no work during our shift.

I stop filing weekly claims when the work load returns to normal. It is not my fault they sent more work overseas and hired a bunch more people before they did that. It is not my fault they have no work for me. They dont want to lay anybody off, they dont want to route me work from other regions (even though I begged), and they simply dont care whether I eat or not, so what options have they given me?

What are you going to do when all your PTO is gone and you still have no work? Not pay your bills?
You are not the boss so you cannot tell them who - to hire and (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
you cannot tell them how to route their work. You're just an employee, not that type of decision maker and hold no position to make such decisions.

I'm just saying be careful because when the people boasting and promoting unemployment get that letter stating they owe back the money because MModal decided too many people were filing and appeal it or contest it and win you'll be glad you didn't file.

Do I think it's fair, NO. Did I quit? YES. Not tolerating abuse. But by the same token, I will cover my butt and not give them one reason to make me owe them. That's for sure.

I'm just saying be careful. That's all. You can choose to do it and find reasons to back it up all you want, but they can contest it and appeal it if they so desire. You probably will receive your UE checks before all of that is even said and done, meanwhile....... Just sayin'.....

Like someone said, snakes in the grass, yep... don't think something so easy is going to be that easy and they not fight it at some point. It can happen. Google "paying back unemployment," and you'll find the horror stories of such, due to no error of the employee, but an error of the UE office or the company appealing/contesting it. I believe in covering all my bases, every single one of them.

Why would you think that they would have to pay - back unemployment?

[ In Reply To ..]
I have filed for unemployment before, received it, and they never fought it. They gave away our work. I have emails from CCM stating that our accounts were shipped offshore. How could they fight that?

I think someone has intimidated you into believing that you are not eligible for unemployment. I would encourage you to call your unemployment office yourself and ask questions for yourself. In fact, them indicating that you CANNOT is illegal.

Try not to borrow problems before.... - bshel

[ In Reply To ..]
there are any. I totally understand why you would go there but, with this company, you just never know. So, until then, make lemonade!!!

I told UE that I had PTO avail and they told me.... - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
that I did not have to use my PTO in place of no work available. I have beenn on partial UE since October and no problem....except MModal giving the wrong weekly pay twice...which was disputed and returned to me. They will try anything...snakes in the grass.

My thoughts on UE... - I start my scheduled

[ In Reply To ..]
time, I work for about 3-4 hours and then NJA. I do Remedy and offer to make up time. I then come back later by my own accord not by TSM saying oh by the way there are hours available to work at such and such a time and then there is still no work or I might get 15 minutes to a half hour in. The next day comes, same thing all over again, and so on. The next thing you know it is the end of your work week and you are now down X amount of hours and no one has contacted you about making up the hours, I believe that I am entitled to file UE. It would be one thing if you are offered work and out and out refused it, but I think a lot of us are not being even offered days and times when this work can be made up because there just is not enough work to go around.

According to the company's policy, you are suppose to be filling out NJA and the TSM is suppose to be contacting you telling you when this time can be made up, and that is part of the problem some of the TSMs are not doing this and everyone is just making up the time whenever they want. I guess my point is the company has a policy in place, but this policy is not being followed. With that being said, I still do not believe it would solve the problem we just do not have enough work to go around. I have heard of people doing NJA and then staying logged into the system and letting the work trickle in punching in and out when they get work so it never gives the system time to build up some work because you have X amount of people doing this.

I changed my work schedule and then had the same problem NJA and I then went back to my old work schedule and it worked well for about 2 weeks or so and then guess what again NJA started all over again.

Again, this is just my opinion. Everyone is running amuck so to speak and there is no organization whatsoever and bascially everyone is just working whenever they want because we all need a check to survive.
This is my view as well - cheated

I keep checking throughout my "scheduled shift" and then later in evening, and sporadic on my off days. Never in the history of my employment have I ever been "contacted" and to me that should be in form of a phone call it its after your scheduled shift, to work and make up my missed time.

I do it all on my own and for now have been about to get most of my time in, less about 3-5 hours. Granted I cant continue to do this, just trying to hold out for things to pick up. The only time I used PTO for NJA was over Christmas and New Years.

Period Or No Period
Jan 03, 2013

Hi.  I know I am going to get ripped for these questions.  However, I have not transcribed in a while and I cannot remember if mg, mcg should be mg., mcg.  Can someone help me update myself.  Thanks Carol.  Also, since I am asking, for postoperative diagnosis do you type " same "or do you type out what the preop was?  I would appreciate any help as there are so many different ways to transcribe it and sometimes clients have preferences.  Thanks Carol. ...

End Of Pay Period
Jan 30, 2013

This is to those MTs who do next to nothing for most of the pay period and then the last 2 days decide to make up all of their lines.  It really screws those of who show up every day and work our full day.  I've spent more time hitting the "get next job" today than I've transcribed lines.  I looked back at the last 5 pay periods and every single one of them on the last 2 days of the pay, I was barely able to make my lines. If you're going to be a slacker then just ...

Low and no work, multiple accounts.  Lucky I got what I did this last payperiod.  However, early this year I got a few bucks in MUP and was told to bring my statistics up or else.  Now, I figure I will be either fired or put on probation for this.  Spent too much time signing in and out for OOW crap.  Should not hold us accountable for that, but you know how it goes. ...

How Could I Have Earned So Little This Pay Period!!!

Why are we still having to jump through hoops -- highlight and skip marker for more than 5 words, etc.  - for the ASR?  Hasn't it had time to "learn" all it is going to learn?  It would be so much easier just to delete the crap we can't use and have to re-do instead of all the red skip markers, etc.  Anybody been told that we can just DELETE and not SKIP yet? ...

Transcend - No Work Last Day Of Pay Period
Jul 16, 2010

I've noticed this repeatedly over the last several pay periods, particularly with one of my accounts, since Transcend took over.  The last day (or two) of the pay period, there is no work - 0 for every work type!  Next day, work levels back to normal.  Is this due to off-shoring, account hogging to get that last pay check boost...?  Or do patients just stop showing up at the hospital on the 15th of every month?...right. ...

MT At Transcend Who Does 40,000 Lines A Pay Period
Dec 22, 2010

Hey, about 3 years ago there was an MLS who did at least 40,000 lines per 2-week pay period at Transcend.  In fact, there was even an article about her and about 5 other transcriptionists supposedly "invaluable" to their MTSOs in one of those AHDI journals. How do you suppose she was doing over 40,000 lines in 10 working days per pay period?   I don't see how it would be possible to consistently edit 500 or more lines an hour every day on that Beyond Text platform that Transc ...
