Did anyone take the test yet? - anon

Posted: Mar 13, 2014

It was HARD!!!   I was actually happy to learn the test was on Anatomy & Physiology and felt super confident going in but ... dang.   I got my score and did really well but seeing as there are only 60 spots, I'm pretty sure anything less than 100% isn't going to be good enough.

was it timed? - East MT

Yes, which is why I felt a little pressure - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I got flustered 2 separate times and absolutely did not know the answer twice. I could see the clock in the corner ticking away while I was wasting time trying to figure it out. You really don't have much time to answer each question and 90% of the questions are things we never encounter in Transcription. I have a firm grasp on college level A&P but still found it very difficult.

Being timed adds a huge element of pressure to it.

good to know. Do you remember how much time you have to - complete it?

[ In Reply To ..]
x
You have exactly 60 minutes to complete it - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
There are 50 questions, only a handful of them I knew right away, but the majority of them were pretty tough. If the test taker resorts to guessing or process of elimination, they will probably not pass. It's way more than knowing the body parts and where things are located, but more about knowing HOW things work, and WHY.

I have a feeling we are each going to get a different set of questions. There are probably many different versions of this test because I've taken similar ones in the past and no 2 test-takers get the same set so I think it was one of those.

Research during test? - txmt
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you have the time and ability to Google during the test?
If you are fast. Approximately 1 minute - for each question. NM
[ In Reply To ..]
xx
Yes if you are extremely fast and know how to decipher good from bad information - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Again, some of the questions are very difficult. I will give you a tiny test-taking clue. Remember that Coding is as much about your ability to do quick, accurate research as it is about your medical knowledge. You will have to apply that skill for this test. BEWARE of bad/faulty information on the web. Also, beware of answers that are ALLLLMOST true but not quite. Be verrrrry careful about the accuracy of your information because all of the INACCURATE/ALMOST TRUE answers were listed as answers on the test too, side by side with the ACCURATE ones. Getting the answer correct will depend on your ability to know which is which.

Imagine that pressure 8 hours a day, 5 days a week - Anon

Because that's what it could possibly be. I know coders who work on production and even though they're only in their mid-30s they look tired and old, and that was with ICD-9. They say ICD-10 is going to be even worse. Good luck to all embarking on this journey. I honestly wish you the very best!
lol i think some of these people on here are trying to discourage - trolling so hard
[ In Reply To ..]
people from even taking the test so there will be a spot open for them.
I assure you, I'm no troll ... - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I've been posting for 2 whole days about hoping I would at least get to test. I also posted this morning about being excited for this opportunity. I would NEVER discourage anyone from taking the test ... I think we all owe it to ourselves to take it and put our hat in the ring for our seat in the 60.

For anyone who hasn't taken it yet, good luck, I hope you all do well with it. I did get a very good score but like I said, with only 60 seats available, I'm pretty sure they are looking for 100% scores.

Addendum: Oops, just realized you might've been referring to the poster above you as the "troll" if that's the case sorry for the mix-up. I honestly do not understand the "hate" some are expressing for those of us taking the test. It's very odd to me.
More likely due to smoking, drinking, and - running around with men.
[ In Reply To ..]
Hang out with a better class of coders and you won't see that.
That's exactly what I was thinking! - No desire to age prematurely! ;)

You gained it from eating. - Coder
[ In Reply To ..]
I swear you make this stuff up!

It is very inventive, though. All of our coders are in hysterics reading it.

Stress CAN cause weight gain. It happened - to my sister. NM
[ In Reply To ..]
Stress releases cortisol -- a real coder would know that - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
You better brush up for ICD-10
Cant brush up, went blind from reading all that - fine print in the code books

I got carpal tunnel from putting all those - sticky notes in my code books
[ In Reply To ..]
It's true.
I wouldn't know about that -- I don't tab mine - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
But I guess get ready for an exacerbation, because you'll have to do it all over for ICD-10.

LOL they should get hazard pay!
Coding is a stressful occupation - anon

Anyone who tells you differently is lying
It is challenging more than stressful - Coder
[ In Reply To ..]
It isn't easy work by any means. Don't go into it if you aren't smart enough to handle it or if you are the kind of person who turns challenges into stress.
It obviously depends on where you work - Anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Where I work, it is challenging and stressful.
Thank you for your input, Coder. You seem to be the - only voice of reason on here.

I think that was just another MT put-down. - Very thinly disguised.
[ In Reply To ..]

I think it said need at least 95 to be considered. That - only allows for 2 incorrect. It also

[ In Reply To ..]
equates to just over a minute for each answer. I took college A&P also and still remember yanking my hair out on the endocrine system. It's a whole different skill set and I think you hit it correctly, it's how and why things work and not simply what and where (body parts). If you feel you did well, then just keep your chin up and keep the faith. Good luck to everyone taking the test.

where did you see that? the original email talks about 95% on the CAP - not the test

[ In Reply To ..]
so much misinformation!! ugh!!

I didn't see that either ... the only thing I saw was ... - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
That they would choose the candidates based on test scores ... so in my mind, that means the top 60 scores.

If there is other information floating around about the minimum score to be considered, I hope someone will elaborate because I've read everything a couple of times and haven't come across the minimum 95% figure either.

It's just the top 60 scores - however,

[ In Reply To ..]
It seems like a ton of people are taking this test so I suspect it is going to take 100% to be in the top 60, or miss maybe 1 or 2 max questions.

It is not unrealistic to think 400-500 people are taking this test.
Agreed, I'm pretty sure the top 60 will have scores of 98-100 - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
For those who have decided to take the test, don't let that deter you ... the top 60 have to be "someone", why not get your test in there to see how you do. You owe it to yourself.
Oh for sure, I didn't mean to disuade anyone - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I was just speculating that hundreds are taking this test so odds are a lot of them will get 98-100%. I doubt all 60 of those chosen will get 100%. I have been in very big college classes of a couple hundred people and even then only 5-10 ever got 100%.

Definitely go for it. They said the score will be the "primary" deciding factor, not necessarily the only factor. I am guessing if you have previous coding experience, you will have an edge (thus the reason for the resumes).

My apology. You're right. I didn't have the email open - and vaguely remembered the 95.

[ In Reply To ..]
You're probably right about top scores and those needing to be 100 or as close to based on the number of candidates.
I actually like the 95% odds better! LOL - wish you were right
[ In Reply To ..]
:)

Thank you! I will ... good luck to you too if you're going for it! - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
You'll probably find that some answers will take longer than a minute, and some will take only a couple of seconds. My personal rule of thumb was to keep 5 minutes between the time clock, and the question number I was on, in case I got stuck and needed more time (which I did). I think I had one minute to spare when I finished.

We all just need to have a little faith in ourselves and have trust in our knowledge. We can do this! :)

Do you get your score, i.e., correct/incorrect - NM

[ In Reply To ..]
as you go, with a total score at the end?

You get your score at the end - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
You are given an opportunity at the very end to review all of your answers, and go back over any you might feel funny about (I'm assuming you have to have enough time on the clock for this). I only had a minute to spare and had done my best throughout so I didn't change any answers at the end but you may want to make sure you have a minute or two left at the end of your test to review.

After you've reviewed your answers, at the bottom it will ask you if you are ready to submit your test for your grade. When you submit your test, it gives you your grade right then, and that is the one that is registered into the system for qualification.

It does show you afterward the ones you missed, but you can't correct them at that point, it's just FYI.

Anon, I guess you feel that since you are out of the - running ...

[ In Reply To ..]
... that justifies giving others an unfair advantage?

That is what you did when you shared the format, that it was timed, that it worked out to a full minute per question, that you could look things up, that you could go over your answers, and all the rest of it.

That is enough information to enable some people to score higher than they would if they did not know that going into the test.

In other words, that was cheating.

oh snap! - NM

The initial email contained this information already! - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
It's not the poster's fault you can't read.

"Are there study guides for taking the Anatomy and Physiology test?

No, there are no study guides available for taking the Anatomy and Physiology test. The Anatomy and Physiology test is made up of 50 multiple choice and true/false questions. You will be given one hour to complete the test based on your current knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology."

This is exactly what my email stated. Unless you and I received different emails, the information she shared was already out in the open.
