A Different Outlook - Tired MT

Posted: May 27, 2013

My thoughts:  I completely understand where you are coming from when you complain about how bad ASR is -- it is horrid -- BUT, on the other hand, if it were really great, we would have no job. So, as far as I am concerned, I will keep on making the corrections and hope it never improves.

Great perspective!! - Happy with M Modal

love this post!

If it was as good as it should be, I could make more than minimum wage! - dnr

The more corrections needed, the less lph you get. Although they want you to correct without stopping the playback, that is impossible unless there are only few corrections. There are some good accounts that I can get over 200 lph, but they are outside of my BOB and I rarely get them.

BTW, Amy's statement that the average editing lph is 186. She was proud of that! 186 lph is only minimum wage for most!

Minimum wage is not enough for me to live on in my state. I will be out of here and MT'ing around January.

I think most of us - agree...

ASR is the worst thing to happen to this job since foreigners took over the hospitals many years ago. The pay cuts and lie that we could double or triple production is the problem. While the ESLs actually seem to be improving, it is doubtful that ASR ever will. Even if they paid 7 or 8 cpl for editing it would be more fair. Oh well. I'm gone shortly, so anyone who thinks they deserve minimum wage can have my work, that is until it is all shipped offshore.

I agree, - sm

As technology changes some jobs get pushed out or made obsolete. If you are not happy with what you are making here, leave, because I can honestly say this is now a dead field and will be gone before you know it. Don't start a career here now, I am at the end of my career and if I can get the 3 years out of it I need, I think I will be fortunate.

The problem is, the other thing that will never - improve is the pay we get.

I think you may be right and that is a good way of looking at it.

Opinions On Course Of Study And Job Outlook?
Mar 31, 2013

Usual story -- I loved MT, but I'm about to be laid off and know another MT job would probably pay minimum wage (if that!).  I'm lucky, in that I'll get enough unemployment to live on and will probably still have enough savings to pay tuition.  However, I have no preexisting college degree, and both unemployment and tuition money will only stretch to about 5 quarters. I've already passed the CPC exam once, can brush up and pass it again.  My local co ...

I currently have Outlook 2010 on my PC and I HATE IT!  I can't save any contacts.  I keep getting a message that says I don't have permission to save to that folder or something to that effect.  It's has an obnoxious toolbar at the top of the screen that I have to study every time I need to perform any kind of action.  I really just want something simple.  I don't have Outlook Express on my PC which I would use if I had it.  I've been looki ...
