I have read some of the messages on this website from the main board, job seeker's board and new MTs.

I have noticed that a lot of the responses to the questions have been negative. I have been doing medical transcription for 10 years. I have had to deal with positives and negatives on the job. That is normal.

My question is: "Why the negativity and why not more positives?"

I no longer have children in the home to support but my salary went from $60,000 in the 80s to about $25,000 now. Instead of getting ahead, most MTs here are struggling to make a living.

Negativity - wantsout

I can answer only for myself why the negativity. I am working harder than I have ever worked for less than I have ever made. I have lost all my benefits. I now have to work every weekened with no differential for working the weekend. I have to scramble for the few jobs I can get. I spend a lot of time bouncing between accounts looking for work. Been through 3 companies and 1 merger. Can't find much positive other than I can work at home.

When I worked for a hospital directly, I loved my job and I knew I had it nice and appreciated it. I had a great relationship with my supervisor and felt she really cared about me. At MTSO, I am nobody to them and am treated accordingly.

If you have a good job, I am happy for you but envious. I am about to start looking for something better if it is out there, but sorry for now will remain negative.

as you never are face-to-face with them, you don't "really" know them.

negativity did not start here, but what goes around comes around and it's on it way back publicly.

Three or four years ago, would have had more positive things to say. I enjoy the job (love medical language and figuring out what the doctors is saying is like solving a puzzle)... I am ambivalent about working at home (convenient, have been able to make more money this way, but isolating and actually I would enjoy dressing up for work). I feel fortunate that actually finding jobs has not been a problem. Haven't found one that pays as well, and one is not enough anymore.

But it's the changes in the industry and the money being harder to earn (for most of us).. I've always worked hard, but now I am working every day of the week, about 12 hours a day, to try to approximate what I made before. There is hardly time for anything else. It's not supplemental income to me and life has not gotten less expensive. I can't live on what I would make for 40 hours a week. So... looking into doing something else.

It has been inconvenient, and maybe a bit confusing at times, to check my time card hours for my shift as, because of my time zone, part of my hours show up on the next day because I work 2nd shift. I wonder if I will get overtime for yesterday, even though I did not work overtime. Ever since they have changed Schedule Source and now it has a display called today's activity with "actuals" hours, this has not matched the hours shown with the time clock punches and is less than the hours according to the clock punch. Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I know they are a small company and do not over hire so I do not know how easily this could be done. My company was honest and upfront when we started using ChartNet. They told us that once you enter a report for VR, the time clock does not actually start for 60 seconds.
