how do most MT's get paid for radiology reports - Dee

I am going from an hourly rate to a cpl. However, when I'm typing short reports such as radiology reports, the line count is so low that I don't make very much. The regular acute notes or clinic notes are longer and I make a lot more. Does anyone know how these are billed?

I was first paid hourly at $15 with benefits out the wazoo, then they switched our pay to 2.25 per report which is great pay per report, then I lost that job due to VR and work another rad account and I am paid by the gross line 8 cents. Which at first I was bummed about because I thought radiology should be paid by report because of all the short reports, but I did a comparison between the 2.25 and the 8 cents a gross line and came out way better on the 8 cents a gross line

see it this way: whatever lines you did with longer reports you will be doing with the short ones, just changing pages more often.

the thing about cpl with short reports - you will do more reports so you need to know the account 1) has the bulk and 2) you can get at them.

I have been working for transcription companies for the last 10 years and now feel like I am ready to try it on my own. I do radiology transcription and would like to get some feedback/advise from any other MTs who have done this. I have been working acute care for the last 5 years and getting paid by the line. I haven't done radiology in a few years, and when I was working in radiology I always got paid by the hour. Now a local hospital is interested in my helping them out on the weekends with their radiology backlog, and are wanting to pay by report, but I have no idea what the average pay per report should be. I'm wondering why radiology seems to be its own separate entity in the MT world. It seems like if you know radiology, they'll bend over backwards to hire you.
