books or Web? - umm.

i'm starting a new orthopedic acount. is there any reason for me to get orthopedic books like stedmans, or is it all out there on the web? does anyone have any experience with this? thanks!

I use the Web and Stedman's. Here's why...my company takes more stock if I have question QA if I actually can say, "I have it right here in my Stedman's ortho book." That seems to be the gospel. Other than for that reason, I find things just as easily when I Google EXCEPT make sure that you are using a reputable site, i.e., AMA or one of the medical sites...when you Google you are going to get all kinds of sites and some of them are by regular people who do not know terminology.

-- I also have Stedman's word books for the specialties I deal with most (i.e, in in your case I'd get the Ortho book, as well as the Equipment Words book [which would help with any surgical procedures, etc.], as well as a drug reference like Drake & Drake).

No need, IMO, for all of the other reference books that don't directly relate to the work you do on a day-to-day basis (but it wouldn't hurt to pick up old, cheap copies off eBay or elsewhere to have them around at a discount ... anatomy doesn't change much, so they're nice to have on hand, but I'd not pay full price for them).

I use the web probably 95% of the time but would still not be without my Stedmans for certain specialties. There are times when you can cross reference a word and get the term you are looking for where the web would not be your best bet. Time and time again I see questions on this board where the answers are easily available in Stedmens.

Hello, MTs! I am back for another question! I do have a list of books I'm interested in purchasing from either Dorland's or Stedman's medical dictionary to Merck Manual's of Patient Symptoms (the list goes on, but I'm just naming a couple). My reference resources are starting to show their age and I've decided to update them this year. I would like an opinion as to what is really worth the $$. Ability to use within Word 2010 is a plus and CD's are preferable to books. *Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book ($41.95) vs QuickLook ($49). Now that I have your attention . . .it is THAT TIME of year again. Before you order your 2013 code books, remember that there is only one ICD-9 diagnosis code change for 2013. You do not need to buy a new book this year. Just get the change from the CDC website and add it by hand. Same with the procedures. There will be a gazillion CPT changes, sad to say, so get a head start on those. The CPT books should be available soon, if not already. The AMA publishes ...
