What You May Not Know about HITECH - MT

Posted: Jan 28, 2012

There are new reporting requirements (MU, or meaningful use) within the HITECH Act.

For the first time ever, patients' BMI, smoking history (patients 13 and over), and vaccination history and records will be reported directly to the federal government by their physicians.  (These data were compiled in the past for epidemiologic purposes but not linked to individual patients.)  And these are just the aspects of Stage I of EMR implementation -- Stage II kicks in in 2014 and has even more reporting requirements.  Most nonproviders are NOT aware of this.
Get ready, folks!  Big Brother is going to know EVERYTHING that is in your medical record before it's all over with.  Even your most personal, embarrassing items, like STDs, abortions, miscarriages, etc.
Come on, Obamabots... Come on here and defend this, claiming it's "all in our best interests, for the nation's health.. " LOL!

You think big brother does not know your business - think again. Right now were just the little people so you think you’re not being watched. As far as this EMR stuff, this is capitalism at its best. There is no way by 2014 that everything is going to be talking to each other. There are so many different EMR companies trying to capitalize on this EMR stuff that it is not capable of speaking to each other which was the government’s intent. RA RA RA. Obama is just a pawn, the real culprits are the 1%, lobbyists, i.e people with money i.e. corporations.

If you are blaming Obama for this, think again. - Do some research NM

A good way to woo others to your point of view is to provide facts, references, etc. If you want to sound credible, childish name-calling isn't the way to go.

Another one wanting points, references....Is everyone on this board so completely, totally computer dumb that they cannot figure out how to download Obamacare, all 2700 pages? Nobody here owes anyone else links, references, quotes, etc. Go to the D__M site, download the bill and read it. You may actually learn to what extent Obamacare is going to affect your job personally. If that is not enough motivation to make a few clicks with your mouse, then keep your head in the sand. Demanding from others what you will not do for yourself is not very adult on your part. Your post had nothing do with credibility, but everything to do with trying to diminish someone. You can try and harass, insult, name call those that actually got the information and then posted it for everyone else to see. Where's your facts the OP was wrong? Where's your facts, references, links to state what the OP said was not in Obamacare? You sound like you belong on the politics board with those constantly speaking of credibility and displaying none themselves.

Here I go again... - sm

I think you missed something here:

I did not ask you to provide references; I suggested that your credibility might be enhanced if you were to do so. I also advised that name-calling was not a good way to win people over.

Still, you persist with accusation, name-calling. I don't know who you think you are talking to, but this is abusive behavior.

Many find your posts abusive and also very easily reported. The OP did not call anyone names. Did not insult anyone. Someone voices a difference of opinion, people on this board jump all over them. Still you persist with accusation, name calling....I don't know who you think you are talking to, but abuse cuts both ways.
please go away - nm

Before you try and insult someone that is on target, you should get your facts straight. Pretty clear you have NO IDEA what is in Obamacare and have not bothered to read it. HITECH MT is factually correct. You can download all 2700+ pages of Obamacare and read exactly how this EMR system is to be implemented, what information is required to go to the IRS, what your MD has to report about your personal health, your BMI, smoking history, etc. Literally thousands of people will have access throughout the government (500+ new agencies alone for Obamacare) that can review any portion or all of your medical records. If you actually made an effort to download this law, you will also find a complete list of the NEW agencies and the channels that MDs will be required to follow. Some of the hospitals I currently work for are beginning implementation of some procedures now, "to get a jump" on Obamacare and it is a nightmare. YOU have no idea what you are talking about.

HITECH MT - You are right

[ In Reply To ..]
This is all stated in Obamacare, but since most have not bothered to read it (I have) and many refuse to take the blinders off, they are going to have a rude awakening. You know the saying, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink...that pretty much describes people that refuse to research what Obamacare truly is and how it is going to affect them on a day-to-day basis. There is no way that govt should ever be in between your medical records, you and your doc and having any of that info. Since this is to be handled by the IRS, they will also have your SS#, birth date and all your financial information, as well. Yeah, that sounds like healthcare (may be in Russia).

Better data, less cost - HennyPenny

I believe the purpose of EMR is to lower patient care costs (look at your health insurance bill), hopefully end duplication, facilitate record sharing between physicians, and disease prevention and health statistics seems a wonderful way to contain costs. As you said, data was already being done. I don't understand why you are so worried when every time you come to this site, you are being tracked and analyzed. You probably are even on Facebook. Just like the government does not care about individuals on the census, this data can be used to track cancer clusters, disease outbreaks, etc. More power to 'em.

A few days ago the MTSO I work for informed us that it was even more important for us to be sure that the patient information in the demographics be accurate.  They went on to say that if an error was made, the patient would now be informed of this.  While I totally agree that at all times patient information, inculding DOB, MR number and other very important data be perfect every time, I can't help but wonder that if patients will be informed when this information is in error, w ...

HITECH Law Penalty

Anyone check with their employer to see how they will handle an MT performing a HITECH HIPAA violation after 02/2010?  Could be $100 fine for each occurence, up to $25,000/year.  HITECH HIPAA violation could be an MT putting an incorrect doctor in for a carbon copy.  I know the doctors are so very thorough in their carbon copy requests, so in that case, there should be very few problems...lol. ...

drop the account?  Would you comply with HITECH and let the doctor worry about his own compliance and keep status quo?  I have an acct that is part time and I could pick up more more elsewhere if I dropped him, but who wants to walk away from business in today's environment?  This doctor is not overtly saying he refuses to send his dictation by encrypted email.  He just is saying nothing and not changing anything. I'm wondering where other people have their home offices/work computers?  My desk is currently in a corner of the living room but it's not in the main living area, so to speak. It's kind of off in this nook area off the living room. My monitors face outside and not into the living room.  I'm wondering if I'm going to have to figure out someplace else to put everything to be in compliance? I do have my computers password locked so no one else can ...
