Radiology per report pay - Wondering

I have typed radiology and have been paid by the line. I was offered a job for $1.50 per report for any report under 5 minutes. Any report over 5 minutes would be $3.00. I would like feedback on this if anyone has any opinions on whether this is a decent rate. Thank you.

That is very decent pay - In my opinion

My highest per report pay was $1.47, and that was after more than 10 years doing it. To start, that is excellent.

First, $1.50/report is good - last place I worked paid only $0.95 per report, any length. BUT, if you work for a teaching hospital, the ones over 5 minutes could be reallly long with residents, etc. AND, make sure you are paid double for linked reports - CT abd and pelvis, etc. EACH one should be paid separately. The platform you are going to be working on will play a big part too, as far as speed goes. I made good money at $0.95/report, but I did between 150-200 reports a day - a lot of macros and a lot of normals, but most of the normals in radiology are now canned reports, so there goes those. I would say that the pay is good. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thanks. The replies help. This is working directly with a radiology company on a p.r.n. basis, and could lead to full-time. I think I will give it a try! Thanks again for your input.

CT abdomen and pelvis is one exam not linked. - but agree get pay for the true linked exams

Linked exams are those they CHARGE separately for, like an elbow, wrist, hand, and knee, and then all read in one report.

CT abdomen and pelvis is one exam with one billing charge, as are some other exams; these are not linked. The exception to that are the invasive special procedures - multiple charges on those, but still only one exam.

I currently work for a company that pays for all links and consider CT/MRI abdomen and pelvis two and pay accordingly. I love that!

I think that is a good rate to start. My last job I was paid $1.65 a report for all types of reports, normals, canned, etc. addendums. Like the OP said, some of them might be long but hopefully it will average out. I worked for a hospital and typed about 125 to 140 reports a day and 160 on good days. Make sure you build up autotext and autocorrect if you can depending on what platform you will be using. Good luck.

I was offered the job today and took it. I am very happy. Gave a two-week notice to another MTSO and will be starting tomorrow. Thanks for all the input. It helped me make my decision :)

Consider how many reports you can type in an hour. - mttexas

Normal time for typing is 3 times the length of dictation, so a 5-minute report would take 15 minutes to type, giving you 4 reports per hour. At $3 per report, that's only $12 an hour. If you can do more than that every hour, it would be decent pay.

I have been working acute care for the last 5 years and getting paid by the line. I haven't done radiology in a few years, and when I was working in radiology I always got paid by the hour. Now a local hospital is interested in my helping them out on the weekends with their radiology backlog, and are wanting to pay by report, but I have no idea what the average pay per report should be.
