Professional/Social MT/Editor Groups In New York City

Does anyone know if there are any advocacy groups or something for us out there? I've been seriously screwed over by Nuance in such a huge way that I can't even describe it in the word count most places allow. Has anyone ever applied for and received partial unemployment in New York state? I looked at their unemployment benefits website and it looks like if you work at all in a day you are considered to have worked that day and you can only get partial unemployment if you work less than 4 days a week? This is my first year to work solely as an IC. I have been sending quarterly taxes in to the IRS using the form 1040 payment vouchers they supplied.
