Medical spell checker question - needanswer

Posted: Oct 25, 2011

I have incorporated a medical dictionary into my Word custom dictionary, plus any new words are added into my shorthand program.  I've noticed some companies require you have a medical spell checker.  Any suggestions on a good program to purchase?

I highly recommend Stedman's Medical/Pharmaceutical Spell Checker. It will mark a medication wrong if you have it spelled lower case like generic if it is supposed to be Brand name. It gives spellings of medications, etc. I love it and saves me a ton of time looking of medications.

Agree with Stedman's - CB

I never had to get my own medical spellcheck before because it was part of the programs at my last (20+ year) company, so I researched a lot of spellcheckers when I had to buy one with my current employer. I have to say, Stedman's is worth the investment. And once you buy, you can update every year for a discount. You'd think you don't need to update every year (like I did) since you add to it as you type, but I was wrong. For example, I do mostly Oncology and I didn't realize how much time it saves to have all the new drugs/protocols etc. already in there vs. spending time Googling.

I go with the free ones - sm

I've used them for years and they too detect all the medications, upper and lower case, and they cost nothing. I have never had a term that was not on there.
