Keep me awake please!!!! - JustMe

Posted: Apr 22, 2012

I am in hour number seven out of the thirteen that I must work today at the hospital. Only one person covers the weekend shift so I'm alone with nobody to talk to and I'm about DIE. I've taken a break after every third or fourth report, just trying to stretch and stay awake but the sleepies will not leave me alone. I seriously think I will die before 9 pm. Is anyone else just doing their best to survive this work day? Why can't these offices have windows??? It's gorgeous outside!! And I've got the most boring monotone doctor today. Oh me.

You said it's gorgeous outside. Can you go take a short walk, maybe 10 minutes or so? That always helps me. After my walk, I grab some water, then I have coffee, either hot or iced.

Of course, the boring doctor isn't helping much either. Good luck!

We have a nice little park outside the hospital and I walked around it twice already because usually the fresh air will pep me up. I guess being pregnant doesn't help. I just want to curl up in the bed and snooze! I thought about the broom closet...seriously..LOL Actually we are swamped right now and I guess maybe my lack of motivation comes from just knowing I won't get caught up no matter how much I type. I did nearly 5000 lines yesterday and only took off ten reports from 7:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. because really all I could do was just remove what the doctors were currently dictating. When I arrived I had 181 reports and when I left I had 171 still on there! Same thing today. I know, I know, I should get back to it and quit yacking on here. Maybe 9:00 will get here eventually. Have a good evening!

I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open, monotone dictators, too warm office, etc. I had 4 hours left to go. I went to the bathroom and went in the handicapped stall, which was large and had a nice chair in one corner. I closed and locked the stall door, curled up in the chair and took a nap. Got up about 20 minutes later and went back to work refreshed. I don't recommend this though!

As tempting as it sounds, I'm afraid I would not wake up and would get busted! I've got one hour left. Then an hour and a half drive back home. Ugh. I sure wish they'd let me work from home.

I was so tired after taking a Zyrtec once that when the office manager went to lunch I put my head down on my desk and slept for 40 minutes. I wish they would let me work from home too. I could get the work done so much quicker. That office can get so noisy.
When I worked in-house, I always went to the chapel for a nap - PJ

Nobody was ever in there, so I had the nice comfy sofa in the chapel all to myself. During one of my break times, I would curl up on the sofa, set the alarm on my cell phone for 15 minutes, and take a power nap.

I worked at that same hospital for 5 years on 2nd shift and did that almost every day. I never was interrupted, and I always woke up feeling very refreshed and ready for the rest of my shift. :)
The hospital I worked at would fire you for sleeping - on the job. Even if it is your

As soon as I start playing the audio, I can't concentrate and I start falling asleep at my desk. I literally have to get up every 15 minutes to keep from snoozing at my desk. Proofing my work is a hassle because, again, audio starts and I'm falling asleep. It doesn't seem to matter how much sleep I get, how much coffee I'm drinking, protien I'm eating, or vitamins I'm taking....nothing helps!  It's getting so bad that my production is seriously slowing dow ...

Staying Awake On Third Shift
Aug 10, 2011

I was just wondering how many other people work third shift and have such trouble staying awake?  I have been doing third shift for a while and it's HARD!!! I have a new baby and my husband watches him in the day, but I cannot seem to get more than 4 hours of sleep during the day and then I try to take a nap in the evening before work, but I am STILL having problems staying awake and I know being tired sets one up for disaster for mistakes.  I am thinking of talking to my physicia ...

How To Stay Awake At The Computer
Nov 01, 2011

I just started a new MT job with our local university and am thrilled because it's full time, hourly, with fabulous benefits.  In my 30 years transcribing, this is the best deal yet.  However, it's difficult moving from a home office to a public office because I can't stop and take a nap when I get sleepy.    Today I found myself starting to nod off!  I tried making "deals" with myself, such as "Just stay awake and then you can take a nap as soon as y ...

Wondering If Anyone Can Help Me Stay AWAKE!
Jan 07, 2015

I love typing for a living . . . the problem is that I cannot seem to stay awake! Mornings are the worst! I get to the point where I literally can't hold my head up and have to take a little nap. It's killing my schedule and line count! I need/want to work more but I get too stinkin' tired. I'm afraid that if I keep coming up short with my line count, I'll lose my job. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions? Coffee is not one that will work for me . . . can ...
