History lesson - what are we - waiting for?

Posted: Oct 13, 2012

Article attached.

We are waiting for permission to take massive action?  Not advocating violence, but please leave your damn jobs.  We deserve better.  There would be no MTSOs without MTs.  Don't you get it?

They already stole our jobs, sent them overseas, created software to replace us, and we are fighting over scraps at slave wages.

Those who are happy being MTs, good, but $8-10 an hour doesn't cut it in my world.  That's not a living wage, and I am my sole support.  If management is overpaid, make bonuses off what I produce, then I want the same.

Naysayers, nay all you want.  Fearmongers, "they will fire us," THEY ALREADY STOLE YOUR JOB.  People who claim to care about patient care, "what about the patients?"  The hospitals made a decision to have computers, VR/SR do the work, let them have it.   Hospitals want the work done in India to save money?  Let the work come back from VR and India without editing.

Write letters, blog about the company you work for, tweet to and about upper management, make phone calls to upper management, ASK QUESTIONS, and respond to those ridiculous articles about how much money you can make with medical transcription.  Slow down when there is work, stop working, or leave your job.  Do it for yourself.

We are waiting till we get other jobs lined up - I dont know about you

I can't stop doing this till I have something else to go to but believe me the minute I do, I will give them back their job and I'm never looking back. Call me selfish, but I don't care what happens to MT after I'm gone.

same here, in school and hope to be out soon - anon

I am finishing up coding and then taking my CCS exam then I will be out of here without a glance back! Have friends who are applying anywhere and everywhere and are leaving as soon as they find another job.

nice idea, but - anon

So if I walk out on my job, are you going to pay my electric bill and buy my groceries after I have zero income...when my company fires me for being a slacker or no-show and glady hires a bunch of part-time newbies who will take any job offer because they have no idea what they are in for yet in this industry?

What I don't understand... - is that if so many are leaving

[ In Reply To ..]
how come the pay for this seems to be stagnant and even going down? I know the reports I do would be way too hard for a newbie or even some Indian doctor to do correctly, and of course VR is still a hot mess. It's like we live in Bizarro world.

It is Bizarro world which is why I want out. Working at home, I'm clueless as to what's really going on. At the age of 37, I don't want to stay in a profession that seems like a spinning plates act, always wondering when it's all going to fall down. Tired of the guessing game and being at the mercy of a big company who ultimately is gonna do what they want.

A Lesson For Those Who Are Considering Being An MT...
May 09, 2010

For almost a year and a half I have been going to a technical school for medical transcription and medical coding and billing. Being an MT was what I wanted to do for a living. I chose the coding and billing because I felt it certainly wouldn't hurt to have depending on where I wound up working. I have made excellent grades and did well in the various classes I have taken. Overall, it was a very good learning experience. In a few weeks I'll be finished. It made sense to begin looking ...

Thanks For The Spelling Lesson, Doc
Nov 28, 2013

I'm not sure what got into Dr. Knucklehead's brain tonight, but he's spelling words like pannus, Trileptal, anasarca (which he spelled wrong).  It's bad enough he's doing it as often as he is because he's completely messing up the voice recognition for his drafts, but he has spelled pannus every freaking time he has said it. The patient has cellulitis below her pannus, so the word is coming up a lot in this report.   I have one more hour to go and then a ...

Learned My Lesson
Mar 02, 2015

I will NO LONGER be working OT.  Got audited on 2 jobs that were less  than 1 minute in length on an unfamiliar account and scored 99.5%.  Do they look for short jobs?  It seems like it to me.  That way, they can fail you.  Hard to stay motivated and focused when you get dinged for such petty things.  In no way did my mistake cause the patient any harm.  Honest to pete.  Have heard rumors that the auditors are off shore.  Really?  After I lo ...

I Learned A Lesson Recently....
Aug 23, 2013

I'm one of the first people to tell someone else to be careful of the bridges you burn when leaving one company for another.  It's advice that I have tried hard to live by and was working out fairly well until just recently. I have another job with another company now and loving it.  Leaving Nuance and finding out that there still are companies out there that give a hoot has made me feel good. Anyway....I didn't actually burn any bridges with my past employers but I wa ...

Providing Salary History

I am looking for work and notice some companies ask for a salary history.  I feel uncomfortable about this, not sure why, but I think it is to their advantage to know this info, not mine.  In my case, I worked for my last company for 5 years with one raise and the companies before that are ancient history.  How would one handle this.  I am not even sure if I have that info on some of my companies.  Why do they want this info? ...
