A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
Medical Transcriptionist Week began May 20th to recognize MTs over a week. The theme this year: Patient Safety. MTs across the country are transcribing medical records and are dedicated to being a 1st-line defense against errors that can negatively and sometimes fatally affect you as a patient - physicians make mistakes. MTs ensure those errors do not end up in your Electronic Medical Record. MTs suggest physicians across the country recognize/thank the MT who ensures their dictation is transformed into a meticulous medicolegal document by:
Taking patient safety seriously as Physician 1, a hyphenated-name doc, does by enunciating clearing, dictating concisely and keeping moderate speed. She facilitates MTs earning a living wage. Patients can be confident they are in good hands when it comes to patient safety based on her thoroughness.
Refraining from dictating in fake accents as Physician 2 does to entertain himself through dictating. It works against patient safety and makes it difficult for MTs to earn a living wage. Your thanks at the end of dictations are great and please slow down in the interest of patient safety.
MTs take pride in producing your medical records and doing their part to ensure your safety and they ask docs to collaborate in the effort this week and beyond!
