Cell phone dictation - Fed up

Posted: Sep 28, 2012

What do you do when you have a bunch of dictators who are using cell phones, causing you to leave a bunch of spaces,  and your MTSO refuses to address the problem?

Return with blanks to drive their QA or the client nuts (sm) - Morgan

The jerks need to know that THEY are showing no respect for the patient's records.

You insert blanks and then politely add a comment such as "audio problems" and move on. - nm

How do you know if it's a cell they're using?

I have a doc on an account who gets behind on reports and dictates from his phone, in a moving car, with the windows down (I can hear traffic and the engine revving), all while listening and laughing to talk radio in the background. He's also fond of chewing gum. He has to be flipping through paperwork or charts at the same time because he is rattling off lab values, test results, medication lists. When one of these reports comes in, there are usually a dozen just like them to follow because he does this to catch up on old reports, some discharge summaries are several months old. I have quit putting much effort in deciphering the noise. Seems it is taboo for companies to address how, when or where docs dictate. I leave blanks without a second thought and hope that if he has to waste more time filling in info, maybe he will realize it just ain't working. Fat chance though, he's been doing this for 2 years.

I'm just so sick of it. In addition to being on a cellphone, this dictator today (Indian) changed her mind every other sentence. Near the end of the sentence she'd say "scratch that" and start the sentence all over, chanaging most of it. They sound so ditzy when they do that, and of course we're not getting paid to wait while they redictate every other sentence. They just sound like they have no no idea what they're talking about, and of course they're totally thoughtless about how it affects the transriptionist, which just cuts our pay to the bare bones, sitting there waiting for them to figure out what they want to say while they dictate the sentence over and over and keep saying ummmmm - no change taht. Total jerks. Feel sorry for their patients. :p

Cell phone technology is pretty primitive when they fail to transmit simple and clear verbal message on a wireless network, many times, it is not much better than 2 tin cans with strings attached. It's pretty annoying to say the least.

Yes, "primitive" is a good word to describe the cell phones, as well as some of these doctors. They just don't seem to give a damn. I've written dozens of notes, but they're all ignored by the doctors, hospitals, and my MTSO. I give up. :p I think some of these doctors and others just enjoy giving us a hard time. They are truly evil IMO. Well, I believe in karma. What they give will eventually come back to them.

Give Docs a Taste of their Own Medicine (sm) - Morgan

On your next appointment with your doctor, answer your cell phone and make the doc wait while you discuss what's for dinner and what time you might be home. Then ask the doc if s/he will give you a discount rate because you need to cut costs. Make sure you mumble through this converation while gum chewing, coughing, and loooong pauses while you think about what to say. Talk about your migraine headaches ad nauseum, answering questions about symptoms and meds you have tried. Then they "Scratch that, I really wanted to just see you about my hemorrhoids" and proceed to tell the doc how the last treatment didn't work so you want him to change it and not charge you for the current visit.

Ha-hah! Sometimes wish I still worked in hospital because at least we could talk to them directly and request things - rarely ever worked/helped, but at least you got to register a direct complaint sometimes there when I worked in the Radiology Department. If I saw some of these bad doctors now, would probably punch them in the nose, though, so better I work from home. :p

They.do.not.care; either the doctors or the higher ups. We complain. Management contacts the docs, NPs, PAs, etc. The dictators still use cell phones and other portable devices. Again, they do not care. It is late, the baby/children are crying and/or playing in the background, it sounds like there is a big gathering of people, they are woefully behind, and they keep on yawning, chomping, snorting, and dictating.

Wonder why... - Elssa

Cell Phone Dictation :p
Jul 21, 2012

I know someone recently talked about this here, but just thought I'd ask how common is this now?  My last account, which I lost to offshoring, had about 5% cell phone dictators, but this new account seems to have over 20%.  It's driving me crazy - tearing my hair out - almost bald at this point.  :P    ...

Best Clients Ever. He Just Redictated A Cell Phone Dictation
Apr 02, 2012

I have the nicest clients ever. After contacting office staff that the physician's dictation was problematic due to the cell phone used, the physician redictated this on a landline. Wow! Nicest ever! I thought I was going to be up all night deciphering this, as this particular cell phone recorded extremely bad. He did not even wait for the prior to come in with potential blanks but redictated it. This is the same client I have that reinstalled their landline after installing a VOiP system t ...

Anyone Get Their Cell Phone Discount?

I signed up back in February because supposedly Mmodal through JP Morgan was offering discounts on cell phone plans. They sent an email directing us to the website that is being used currently for the MT week stuff. Cell Phone Discount Thru MModal
May 22, 2014

I saw a post on here the other day regarding discounts thru MModal thru JP Morgan and immediately called my cell phone carrier.  I had to give them my work email so they could verify.  I did have to change the cell phone bill into my name, which meant getting a new account.  It took quite a while, but worth it as I was eligible for a 23% discount on my data package, which they say is the most expensive part of the bill.  Hey, any savings nowadays is worth an hour on the ...
