Caught flak here for excessive charge by vascular surgeon - Noyb

Posted: Oct 08, 2013

Back in September went to a vascular surgeon who saw me for a few minutes, said had no clue why my legs tired, hurting at night and proceeded to charge my insurance $325.00. I thought excessive being as nothing done. Others here said I had to pay for his office, his staff, and on and on. I called my insurance company, reported as excessive. I cancelled followup with him. Yesterday self referred to another physician, location approximately same as first. This particular physician said what he thought it could be, what he did not think it was and ordered 2 tests for me to have done. Now here is the closer. As I left his office asked about the charges for the visit, my copay and told nothing, not 1 red cent. As I stated before here, not every single visit constitutes an excessive charge, some consults do not cost anything, as in this case and did not feel like either I or my insurance company gouged excessive amount as with the first physician.

why do you keep putting it all out there? - let it go

Do you like being a right fighter? Do you need justification for everything you do? Can you live without the drama? Oh dear God...

no need to be nasty - she just wanted to

share that what she stated was actually the case. There is nothing wrong with that. Leave her alone. She can post what she wants to, just as you do, nasty and all. gees. Maybe we NEED more "right-fighter's". Nothing wrong with that either!

Many transcriptionists work at home. Sometimes, at least speaking for myself, this can be a little lonely. In this day and time, when so many people are suffering from the economy (especially the MT economy), stress, anxiety, or even a tiny bit of “mental illness”, it means a lot and is fairly easy to reach out and show some kindness. As my mother used to say, the only way to have a friend is to be one. Maybe there are some of us here who might benefit from remembering that and I hope, if you are reading this, you are well and have a wonderful day.

Good for you! - LoveMT

If we don't stick up for ourselves in this day and age where some doctors spend entirely too much time flitting from one patient to the next in ONE day's appointments and billing those visits with over-the-top charges, who is going to stick up for us? Glad you had the insight to fight for what you thought was an unjustified charge, whether it was a charge to you personally or a charge to our insurance company! Maybe if more people contested these uncalled for charges, then doctors would actually take time to do their job and actually charge for a DIAGNOSIS that they spent time really diagnosing!

He comes in the room, shakes my hand, asks how I'm feeling, looks at my leg, asks how far I can now bend the knee, tells me it looks fantastic (I think a purple knee is ugly!), and how good i look (sure, gained all my weight back +6 extra) tells me he'll see me in a year now (yay!), shakes my hand and leaves....all this in 3 minutes and charges .

This last visit, since a larger insurance company/hospital took over the practice now makes me pay $40 up front before the exam. Good thing I had that much in my wallet. I have no idea how much this company will charge for the full visit. i'll get the bill at the end of the month.

They told you no cost because they haven't billed your insurance yet. Just wait.

I always have co-pays at appointments, so should I - Noyb

still just wait? In fact, the actual statement when I asked about what do I owe, the lady said "well, actually he did not charge you. If I were you I would hurry for the door before he changed his mind."

Co-pays - anon

So you walked out without paying a co-pay that you "always" have? Sounds like you're scamming doctors to me... first you complain to your insurance company so they don't pay the first guy and now you blow off the second?
Nice. Real nice.
Are you really serious?? Really??? - Noyb

Why in the h.... do you think I walked out without paying a co-pay? What gave you that idiotic idea? I complained to the insurance company but it had not been even submitted yet by the first physician. I have every right in the world to do that and I did. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Do you not know what's in your own post? - anon

Twice you said you didn't pay the second doctor a co-pay. TWICE.

I'm starting to think you need a different type of consult.
Yes, I know what is in the post and think - most on here can read

This was in the first post and I quote
"Now here is the closer. As I left his office asked about the charges for the visit, my copay and told nothing, not 1 red cent." In my language, that being English, meant I was not charged anything.

In a followup post and I quoted lady word for word when checking out "well, actually he did not charge you. If I were you I would hurry for the door before he changed his mind." This was AFTER I asked the front desk at the office what did I owe.

Again in English I owed them nothing, according to the doctor's office.

Your post makes me wonder if sometimes people here are smoking some "medicinal" cigarettes when they read these.

not be that unusual here. This is not the first physician I have seen that has not charged, sometimes consults are done as freebies. I don't consider it odd. have had the 2 tests done and await notice from the office about return appointment. If I remember regarding charges will ask him then for my understanding.
The only docs around here that do not - charge for consults

are cosmetic surgeons. Usually a new patient consultation is several hundred dollars.
Me thinks you're not telling the truth somehow here - - not buying it for a moment nm

My daughter saw one of the physicians I transcribe for a while back about a knee problem. Initial visit and two x-rays came to about $375. He spent probably 5 minutes with us, total. And this is the same doctor that complains when his transcription bill FOR A MONTH is just about twice that! Sheesh.

Excessive Nastiness Here On The MM Board
Feb 27, 2013

Admittedly, there are some nasty trolls on other boards here on this site, too, but the M*Modal and Politics boards seem to have a really, really high ratio of viciousness.  No surprise on the Politics board, but it is interesting that the M*Modal board comes in for so much more meanness, post for post, than the others. Since the nastiest folks always seem to be those defending M*Modal and belittling other MTs, it does make me wonder if some of M*Modal's low-level managers like to ve ...

I Caught My Company's Spyware In The Act.

I'm not going to identify the company (let's face it - they ALL have spyware these days) or how I did it, because I don't want to be identified.  This is a company that requires you to have an instant message feature turned on the entire time you're working.  I turn it off when I'm off the clock.  HOWEVER, the other day, when I was not logged in to work, I was doing some shopping online.  When I was finished comparing items, and decided to close the ...
