Anybody need new company?? - Bummed in North Cali

Well, it seems as if the outsource bug has hit again. I don't know how my hospital transcription department managed to stay intact for so many years but we are officially being given the boot in 2 weeks.

Anyways, if you are looking for another company to switch to, Mediscribes (based out of Louisville, KY) is taking over but their pay really sucks; hence, why I am not taking the job. We are a very large health group and if you get this account and run out of work I would be very surprised.

A big account doesn't mean there will be work for U.S. MTs. MT companies all have "big" accounts, but they eventually offshore, leaving us with nothing.

SO... lots of work in the hospital, doesn't mean lots of work for us MTSO workers.

Over and over the MTSOs excitedly tell us how big of an account is coming on board. We get the work indeed, we excel on the account, start making $$, they rip the account from our tired, hopeful hands and send it offshore leaving us back at square one. Vicious cycle. Know you are doing right for saying no to the corporate giant before you spend many years wondering why you stayed like I did. Good for you and good luck!

They have an address out of Louisville, but their tech support is all Indian. Yahoo Messenger is used and they will IM you to remote into their computer. I have Windows 7 and had numerous problems with the software using this platform. Other than that, everyone else was extremely nice and helpful and I do have to agree with the low pay, but seems to be the norm lately.

N.Cali. has turned into a virtual vacuum when it - comes to jobs of any kind.

It seems like what MT jobs are still left are in Southern Calif, but I love it up here, and don't want to move there.

Weird thing about Calif, isn't it? The further North you go, the poorer everyone is, and the fewer jobs. The further South, the richer people are, and the more jobs.

We are a pretty big company, and we think we know what transcriptionists want, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I have over 30 years in this field and it seems that a lot of companies are either cutting the MT's pay to edit on ASR and/or are offshoring work out to India, Pakistan, Philippines, etc. I don't believe in sending our jobs overseas, and I've also given ASR at whirl (a long whirl lol) and I still couldn't increase my lines per hour to compensate for the cut in pay that I had to take by doing ASR. The company I work for hired me as full time 1000 lines with benefits. 3 months later they changed their policies to 1200 lines anything under no benefits. Also we can not work over 40 hours. Would you be able to perform at that level? I'm sure there are some of you that say you consistently produce 100% quality and at least 400 lines an hour. I'm not talking to you. It is no different than our company. We need better working conditions and raises. Found out there are many MTs in this company and we all are not making the same pay. Some are even higher pay.
