Looking for CPT code for excision of 1.5 cm perianal cyst. Anyone?

That one can be a challenge. What were you thinking of using? And do you have a path report on it?

I always get stuck wanting more information, it seems.

The specimen was sent to Path. Excised with radial elliptical incision and closed with running simple suture of 3-0 catgut. I want to use 11422, but I don't think that is correct.

Try the code for trunk instead - sm

I think you have a cyst of the trunk, not genitalia. Try that code instead.

When did they move the perianal area to the trunk? Is this not a rectal cyst?

Hard to tell without seeing the procedure note and path report, but he said perianal, not rectal, and the mode of excision implies skin, not something deeper. I didn't see scopes, retractors, or layered closure . . .

If it is skin, I would use skin codes. If it is deeper, then you would need to use something else.

My question for you is what constitutes the skin of the trunk. In the context of these codes, what skin is included in trunk?

The original question has been debated many times on the internet. The problem always comes down to the definitions of the terms and/or not being able to tell what the procedure actually was.

From Desk reference: In 46922, the physician performs destruction of anal lesions by excision. The physician exposes the perianal skin and identifies the lesions. The lesions are surgically excised. The incisions are closed.

11400 through 11471 are codes for excision of benign lesions. The specimen was sent to path; what does that report say? I'm also leaning towards 46922. 45108 through 46922 is the code range for excision of anal lesions. I'm new to this but I think I'd go with the 46922 code pending the path report.

We can't tell that it isn't a pilonidal cyst, so those are good suggestions.

Based on what you do know about the closure, can you eliminate one or more of them?

Need to buy MS Word for my new job. However, when I purchased the 2007 version online it was an "academic version" only. Can't use that. any trouble with Word not responding. This happened to me a couple months ago, Geek Squad saw nothing wrong, it stopped happening and then today it happened 3 times within an hour. I'm starting with a new company next week. My Windows 7 PC has Office 2013 Professional. The new company's platform is only compatible with 2010 or earlier. I don't have the money to spend on 2010, so I'll either have to decline the offer or try to find a way to install 2010 cheaply.
