Switching from FT to PT for MDI-Transcders - DOM-MT

Have any of you that came in with the MDI merger to Transcend or Transcend MLSs had a problem switching from full-time to part-time, or to IC status, etc.? It was mentioned during the conference calls that we could switch after the merger if we felt we needed a different schedule or less/more hours. Was this an easy process with HR or your TL/ROM?

I was originally going to be an IC - but was "convinced" that I needed to be full-time, but that I could switch to IC later if it worked out better for me. I probably should have known not to be so gullible. Maybe going from full-time to part-time will still work out for me, though.

If you don't mind me asking, about how many hours do you typically work?

I was working 20 (the minimum required) and I wanted to drop down to just 10 hours a week. I already work a FT job outside the home and I also have another IC job (not MT). I just like a little extra fun money.

My TL did let me drop the minimum hour requirement altogheter and just maintain $450 per pay, which lets me work about 10 to 15 hours per week. I still have to log my hours, but I don't have to worry about getting 20 hours in and trying to figure out lph, etc.

I also remember being told that we could change to IC later on if employee status didn't work out, but I think they nixed that later on closer towards the merge date. There were just too many changes after they told us everything would stay the same. Of course, I knew better. I'll be moving on soon, hopefully by the start of summer.

I'm glad I decided to go with my gut and went with IC instead of f/t (almost did, felt compelled to). HOWEVER, the IC contract is only for a six-month term and I fully expect when it is up for them to say, oh, sorry, if you want to continue working you'll have to be an employee. I think they only offered IC because they knew a lot of people would quit otherwise but assume once we are settled into Transcend we'll probably just stay if they take IC away. This is all just a guess on my part, I admit. If they don't let me renew my IC contract in July I'll be leaving.

I was really kicking myself for a while when they said I couldn't go IC. I hope they renew your IC status, but as you know, I wouldn't count on it.

I had no idea they put a 6-month clause in it.

When they said they were checking to see if they could offer that. They only said that to pacify everyone because again, they were afraid we would all leave if that option wasn't at least appearing to be offered. Well, I left anyway and am I ever glad that I did!

Hey MTs and editors! My account is going to VR. It's a rather small account and the dictation can be handled by a crew of 4 or 5 most generally. How long do you suppose it will take before everything shakes out and we are able to see how many people are needed in the end? I'm pretty sure there won't be enough work. I am currently working for my MTSO full time, however I would like to go down to part time (still get benefits). I've been tentatively offered a FT nanny position for a dear friend of mine who would pay me cash to take care of her baby, either my house or hers (we live 5 miles apart). I have always worked for local hospitals and doctor's offices. I have never worked through a company, but with most of our local area switching to VR I am having to look to companies for work. In our local area our transcriptionists usually are paid about 12 cents per line, but I am noticing most companies pay is substantially lower as i saw an ad for Sten Tel paying only 5-6 cpl. With switching to the new program eBeyondTXT I am not noticing much difference from before with the old program. It takes just as long to download a job and half the time I am getting the spinning circle showing the slowness of the program. The things that did change is the account I was working on is now an all edit account. I also noticed that instead of 2 spaces between each sentence it is now only 1 space. I'm working on an account that uses Chartscript, and something fairly bizarre is happening to my notes. When I submit the jobs they are in Times New Roman font, I'm double-checking to make sure that's the case, but at some point after submission they are switching to Arial! When I am using my Dictaphone listening through the headset sometimes the audio switches away from the headset and sounds like it is coming through the handset. If the room is quiet I can still just so hear it. Then it switches back to the headset. It makes it really hard to work because often I have to back up to hear what I missed when it switched to the handset.
