Nice email regarding line count discrepancy, stating it was actually calculating headers and footers and canned text, which it was not supposed to be, and we were OVERPAID. So you mean for 5+ years, I have been getting EXTRA money, and you JUST now caught this, and oh good for you, you are not going to go retroactive and ask for your money back - REALLY. I call BS.

Don't you just love that! I guess that's our MT week gift, the cheap b*****ds. The last company I worked for actually gave us a gift! Not these guys. Instead we get an email saying thanks for making us so much money that we don't share with you!

The reason I have stayed with SS is that in the past if you did your work they left you alone. I have overlooked the mediocre pay, outdated software, downgrading in benefits, and idiotic time off policies. But this thing about not getting paid for headers and footers hard-coded templates is the last straw. When i was hired I was told we were paid for standards and normals (which they did not mention specifically, but I bet the no-pay policy includes those, too, if anyone cares to catch them at it). I regret so much not documenting every single line on every single pay period. As much as I dread looking for another job I guess the time has come. The only reason they're not trying to get back the "extra money" (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) is that no idiot there could figure out how to do it!

I have a cardiology account that I have to go into the reference site, find the date, the patient info and enter all of it into the header... so that makes me wonder if I'm getting paid for this? Most of the time, the stupid cardiologist doesn't bother to dictate the DOS and it takes me 10 minutes to find the patient info! That part by itself burns me up so if I'm not getting paid for it that makes it 100 times worse. Not to mention that every stupid one of them is ESL.

that I have to fill in headers and use a census, which we don't have an up to date one most of the time. I have gone so far as to look on websites such as Intelius, etc. just to find a correct name spelling. No more will I do that! There's no thanks for the extra effort.

The email I got was that we were over paid because of headers/footer and preset text, which I was told we didn't get paid for when I hired on several years back. It didn't say anything about canned text nor did it say anything about over payment for 5+ years. Did you get a different email than I did?

We all got the same email. There is such a thing as lying by ommission, and that is what is happening here. I can tell you for a fact that they did NOT upgrade their system on May 16 and discover they had been paying us for headers and footers and hard-coded templates. I am sure I would be fired instantly if I told you how, but let me say it involves a crashed computer, a reinstall, and the back-up cloned hard drive on my laptop. These people are liars. If someone files a class action suit against them, I am there.

Oh gosh, I don't know what all that technical stuff is/means, but if it's a bad thing, how can I tell if it's on my computer? I've been pretty happy here. I've worked for other nationals where my line rate was cut down to 4.5 cents/line to "edit" due to voice rec and I've ended up transcribing the majority of the documents still for only 4.5 centa/line.

I was talking about headers/footers, and text already on the document. I was just saying, if they only caught it now, they have been overpaying since I was hired. Because my line counts were much different until about a week ago.

I'm so glad to see all these postings proving that I'm not alone here at SS. Strength in numbers I hope. There's a lot of intimidation going on there and I guess with all of us complaining, and demanding answers, they will learn they cannot do that anymore. And those of you above, you are correct, we've been "overpaid" for a lot longer than 1 year and they didn't just "figure this out." SAVE, SAVE, SAVE your emails.

I haven't noticed a change, really. I wondered what you guys were referring to, until I got the e-mail today. My accounts don't have a lot of preplaced stuff so I guess I'm still getting paid for what I am typing.

Good luck finding some other company that pays you for preplaced headers. None of them do. Your accounts must have had quite a bit of information in the headers to make such a difference. I'm sorry your line counts went down, but like I said, it is pretty unusual to get paid for these anywhere else. The previous line counts have been good, and now you will have to work for your paycheck like the rest of us.

For whatever reason, they changed it. I don't care if they lied, people do it all the time to make themselves look better than they are. It doesn't bother me a bit. I'm just glad to have a job and a paycheck, and a company that leaves me alone to do my job. If you think the grass is greener elsewhere, go ahead, try it. Leave. I hope you get a nice, up to date platform with all the bells and whistles for your editing VR. And I'll have more work.

I noticed a bit of change after yesterday, back to where it should be. I wish you all good luck too finding a company that pays for preset info. Been in business for a long time, change happens, some we like, some we don't but would rather be here, not losing my accounts to overseas, then being turned into an editor for 3 cents a line and end up retyping the garbage from overseas at that rate!

I'm not talking about headers or footers. I have accounts where the templates have a lot of text in them and most of the time I have to delete it because the doctors don't use it. They were taking off 6 lines for every report whether the template text was there or not. So, if the actual line count was 20 lines, SS would count 14, if it was 10 lines, SS would count 4, even though the template text was deleted. THAT IS A BIG PROBLEM. Deleting lines that aren't even there. They have since then corrected this and in the past 4 days my line count went up by 400, because of the correction. This is what I was complaining about.

If you enjoy being intimidated and lied to by your company then that's fine. I, for one, would like to work for someone with some integrity, like SS was years ago.

Regarding being paid for headers and footers, when I was hired, I ALWAYS knew we were not getting paid for headers and footers, etc. So I was under the assumption that the line count I was getting for all these years was minus the headers/footers and preplaced template info. So when the line count went down, I thought they were no longer paying for spaces, or they rigged something so we were not getting our counts. I know you don't get paid for these things anywhere and was not expecting to.

I am not in management. I am a transcriptionist. Is it because I am not whining and complaining on this board that you assume this? I am simply happy where I am, I work hard and I get a paycheck. You should go elsewhere if you are so unhappy. See what it is like out there. Go ahead. Maybe you will find the perfect place.

I'd love to hear back from YOU after you leave and have to deal with the voice rec, editing all those ESLs that India can't do. See how it feels to have your every keystroke monitored and micro-managed, and have your job threatened regularly on manditory conference calls because of other people's errors. Then maybe you will appreciate what you have.

Seriously people. Why are you complaing about being paid MORE for line counts? I have worked for SoftScript for 8 years and I love working here! I am thankful that we did get paid extra. Sure it will affect my check "a little bit" now. But, I am an excellent MT and can make it up with no problem. Those of you thinking they are ripping you off - use your brain and figure it out. If you don't know then please let me know and I will tell you how to figure it so you can double check..... So they made a mistake, what is your QA score every time???? No mistakes???? They are not paying us MORE, they are paying us what they should be now. As I said, only as of 5/16 did i see the drop in lines, 450 lines to be exact and I do know how to figure it out so I knew exactly what they were doing. Read my post above. Now they have corrected it and I am being paid what I should be except for when I have to fill in headers or change headings in the template. If things would have been left as they were, my paycheck would have been short about $150-200. SHORT, not MORE. So they had to fix that. I'm sure you don't just sit back and relax when your line count drops by 150 lines every day. I'm sure you would "figure out" that something is wrong here. I know that they have not been paying us for headers and footers for the last 5 or so years and that is fine. But the drop in the line count was not from headers and footers. It was from the TEMPLATES. If you have blank templates then you would not have seen a change, but if you have templates filled with text, then you would have seen a big change. END OF STORY.

If you go out to dinner and order a steak and the waitress brings it to you completely raw and devoid of seasoning, would you pay for it? Did the cook do his job? Did the waitress catch the cook's mistake?

If you get a template with prefilled text, consider that your fingers don't have to work as hard typing that text, but don't expect to get paid for it.

I have been in this business for over 20 years now, and it never ceases to amaze me how some MTs expect to get something for nothing. No, I am not a manager at SS, but I have been in management in the past, and I know how hard it is to track down MTs who are supposed to be on the system working. They just disappear and then at the end of the pay period, they whine because their line count is so low. I have also been in editing and have seen the mistakes made...simple mistakes that should have been caught, just like the aforementioned steak.

If an MT is so miserable at one MTSO, that MT should look elsewhere for something more to his/her liking. But I can also tell you from many, many trips around the block that what you are looking for (paid headers and footers, paid canned text, etc.) is going to be very hard to find. I feel that SS is a fair company and pays a fair, living wage. If you want to stay at SS, why not take this up with your PM. If you don't get results there, go higher...all the way to Santa Monica if you have to.

Oh my God !!!! No one is expecting to get paid for headers, footers and prefilled text - where do you get that from. We were just saying that the line counts when down from when we were hired (under the knowledge that we would not get paid for these things), and we were going by our routine line counts and then after years and years, the line counts suddenly go down. That was all we were trying to say. I don't expect to get paid for what I don't do, but I expect to get paid for what I type, and mind you that is only what you type, not any searching for things and any time finding correct doctor name spellings, etc. You dont get squat for that time.

It is RARE when a template can be left as is because many accounts at SS are VERBATIM. Each patient has different health problems, so sometimes only a system may need to be changed, sometimes several sections because again these are VERBATIM. Just deleting the unnecessary/incorrect information takes time and we are not paid for this because it isn't typing. This also does not include the time to taken to carefully go through each portion because as MTs we are used to not getting paid for each and every thing we do whether research or double-checking a doc's spelling or what have you. Anyone with integrity does those things, but this should not mean that integrity equals less money. Some MTSOs have use a system to weight reports, and I think that is a fairer way.

On the other hand, I have worked on several accounts at SS where the header information must be manually typed in, so I have all the searching for info, etc. that I always have PLUS typing. What I want to know is will I be paid for typing information that does not automatically populate in the header/footer simply because it occurs in a header/footer? If they are not going to pay me for what I type because it's in a header/footer, I'm still good on the integrity thing, but my memory is not as good as it used to be. Hope I don't "forget"....

In regard to pre-set text and templates, please see my earlier comment explaining what happened, subject: Lucy. They were taking out lines for pre-set text even though it was deleted because of typing verbatim. In other words, 4 lines were being deducted for every report, whether or not the pre-set text was still there or not. This has been corrected, on my account anyway, and those lines are not being deducted for pre-set text (other than headings.) Goody for me, now I am back to getting my regular lines.

I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what OSI cuts out of their line counts? Seeing as they use a remote website for line counts, it is pretty obvious they cut corners with what MTs get paid on. I was just wondering WHAT are the cutting? Do they only pay 1 space? Do they not pay if you copy and paste? Do they only pay on a % per page - meaning if you have little on 1 page you aren't going to get any credit for those lines, etc? Just curio ...

I know this has been discussed before, but what is up with these line counts? I used to have no problem doing 200+ lph. Now, I work at the same pace on an account with less ESL speakers and I struggle to get my required 150 lph. According to the Escript, I'm doing an average of 300 lph on VR but usually at the end of 8 hours, I don't top 1100 liines most days. On Dictaphone's ExSpeech, i used to consistently do 1800-2400 a day on a combination. I have noticed with EScript that 1 day a week, my lines will hit 1200-1300, and I even hit 1500 one day, yet the lph were still 300. It doesn't make sense. No, I do not take breaks. Hi - I have a question regarding counting templates. I have a new doc who wants me to only count what he dictates, and not the templated review of systems, past medical history, social history, etc. which is all unchanged (unless he says to change it). Do you cut and paste your work into a "count" file to get the total, or do you tell the doctor that it has to be included in the count. And what about the times he does make changes to the "templated items". I welcome any suggestions. ...

I am just curious as to what line count standards are out there. What are your line count requirements for the day and how much do you use your QA for things like missing encounters, unable to ID patients, incorrect work types? I have been an MT for over 10 years doing hospital work. I have never been able to do much over 200 lines an hour straight typing except for the rare occasions I get several eye surgeries in a row that are canned. Usually I fall below this.
