Fascinating that line counts are exactly what they should be on certain jobs and way off on others. Have it from an excellent source that they know exactly what they are doing and pretending otherwise. So very fun and rewards will no doubt be reaped, especially in light of the "oops we have been overpaying all of you for a year or so and be happy and don't worry be happy because we've decided that the timing couldn't be better during MT Week to let you all know that we won't be deducting the overpayments from your paychecks and oh yes BTW we overpaid you by a significant amount so be very very grateful." Fun and funny and rewards will reap.

Awkward interface and really soft line counts, never know from one job to the next what you can count on. The only time I make a good line count is when I get a l5 minute or longer job. Call me cynical but I don't think the savings made from not paying the MT for half the product (headers, footers, ADT, copies, all those imported headings and subheadings) is passed onto the customer. And yeah, wasn't that an extra special gift during MT week? This whole industry is a complete bummer - so much education and effort for so little respect and reward. Yet we're so lucky to be at home. Not. What a crock. You end up fat, isolated, and a tad hostile. I make exactly the same annually to what I made in 1980. It used to be a decent living - no longer. Now I'm so old and out of shape I couldn't get a job at Burger King.

There was a job posted late last night for pain management. This is a very lucrative field. I do not know the MTSO and how she pays, but the procedures are dictated the same, so you can save them out, and they have repeat patients.

I think it is scandalous what some MTSOs are doing as far as pay. I read the EMDAT system can be configured to only count the characters actually typed by the transcriptionist and the savings.... they pocket it. I personally pay my transcriptionists for everything... headers/footers, spaces, headings...2 characters as bold.. whatever can be counted gets counted, as I transcribe also, and good help is hard to find. They too have to do some sort of account setup, and I know how hard everybody works. Better yet, find your own clients. You might be a lot happier. Good luck!

Headers and footers are the sections of reports that are already filled in when you open a template if you are working in Word. They usually appear "grayed out" and contain fields which populate from the demographic information for the report. Information can be manually entered in by double clicking on the grayed out header area and inputting the information.

These are seldom paid in this day and age because the transcriptionist generally does not have to fill them in, or has to input very little information (date of service, maybe). Hope this helps.

I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what OSI cuts out of their line counts? Seeing as they use a remote website for line counts, it is pretty obvious they cut corners with what MTs get paid on. I was just wondering WHAT are the cutting? Do they only pay 1 space? Do they not pay if you copy and paste? Do they only pay on a % per page - meaning if you have little on 1 page you aren't going to get any credit for those lines, etc? Just curio ...

I know this has been discussed before, but what is up with these line counts? I used to have no problem doing 200+ lph. Now, I work at the same pace on an account with less ESL speakers and I struggle to get my required 150 lph. According to the Escript, I'm doing an average of 300 lph on VR but usually at the end of 8 hours, I don't top 1100 liines most days. On Dictaphone's ExSpeech, i used to consistently do 1800-2400 a day on a combination. Hi - I have a question regarding counting templates. I have a new doc who wants me to only count what he dictates, and not the templated review of systems, past medical history, social history, etc. which is all unchanged (unless he says to change it). Do you cut and paste your work into a "count" file to get the total, or do you tell the doctor that it has to be included in the count. I am just curious as to what line count standards are out there. What are your line count requirements for the day and how much do you use your QA for things like missing encounters, unable to ID patients, incorrect work types? Is anyone else suspicious about how they are calculating our line counts? I have been siltting here VERY diligently and typing like crazy these last few days and my counts seem to be going DOWN!!! I have been an MT for over 10 years doing hospital work. I have never been able to do much over 200 lines an hour straight typing except for the rare occasions I get several eye surgeries in a row that are canned. Usually I fall below this. My account is not difficult, but I do have a couple of different hospitals and of course many dictators.
