So disgusted..... - annoyedMT

Posted: Aug 05, 2010

Well it is my first week with Transcend..... really not my first choice but I needed to get a job and they wanted me to start ASAP.   Seems the account I will be on has work, at least for now.  The real problem I have with them right now, is that they were supposed to send me a footpedal, to be shipped out on Monday overnight to me.  It is now Thursday, and according to the FedEx tracking site, it has not even left Georgia yet.  I am supposed to be doing 5 jobs a day this week during "training", and the trainer tells me to just do the jobs using the mouse and keyboard to control the audio, which is beyond annyoing when I am already trying to get used to a new platform.  Oh, and tech support said it is a FedEx problem, not their fault (of course).  This has not been a good start of a new job, and honestly I am really doubting my decision at this point :(  Thanks for letting me vent!!

Transcend - and the foot pedals

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry about your foot pedal. When I had my interview with Transcend, I had just bought my own foot pedal, but they really wanted to provide me with one; even asked me again if I was SURE I didn't want them to send me a foot pedal, and if I couldn't send back the one I had just purchased. It just seemed strange. Don't tell me they have some foot pedal racket going on... ha ha. Maybe theirs was free. I can't remember.

Foot pedal - RLee

I recall reading on this board a month or so ago about a tracking device on foot pedals, which I found humor in at the time. Maybe it is true - that is why they want to provide their foot pedal. I always thought a tracking device would be installed as part of their platform or program, but maybe their geek squad has come up with a better idea of tracking. Just a thought - lol.

Paranoia supreme! The only way they can track you using your - me

[ In Reply To ..]
foot pedal is to determine whether or not you are actually working on a job versus have jobs download and you are out floating around in your pool. Foot pedals are free to you as a service, not as spyware.
Hmmm - RLee
[ In Reply To ..]
So you are saying they can track if you are working via your foot pedal?? No matter if it is considered a service or not - it still falls into the spyware category. I never gave it much thought until the subject was brought up on this forum in the last few months. With that said - when I was working for Transcend I did not care if they were monitornig me or not, as I had nothing to HIDE!!!!
No, they cannot "track you" around the internet, they can just tell if you are - me
[ In Reply To ..]
actually working or using the voice file or if a job is downloaded and sitting idle. If they track someone, it would have to be through a program, not through a foot pedal connection.

Mountains out of mole hills.
She did not say that. - sm

She said "track if you are working," not track you on the internet. Basically, she was asking what you said, if they can track if you're actually working or if the job is downloaded and sitting idle.
Yeah, but some make a sport of chasing RLee around the board - and insulting anything she says.
[ In Reply To ..]
They must be very bored people as they are STILL chasing RLee's posts and trying to make her look foolish. Actually the only one who looks foolish is the person arguing RLee's posts every time she posts anything.

Geez. They can only track the activity on the platform, lol - Cracks me up all the misconceptions out there!

That is what I said - RLee

I stated I was always under the impression the tracking was done via the program and not the foot pedal UNTIL it was suggested otherwise on this board. I also mean tracking your work not time surfing the internet.

footpedal - annoyedMT

That's funny.. when I had my interview, I told the recruiter I thought I would need a footpedal, that I did not think mine would be compatible. She told me, "well if you find out you can't use it, then we will send you one". So, of course when the guy installed the software, it wasn't compatible. That was a week ago. What really gets me is that no one can even say, Gee, we're sorry for the aggravation, we are working on it", they act like I am a pain in the you know what for asking about it.

You are giving out too - much info

[ In Reply To ..]
Transcend's upper management reads this board and hopefully by what you have posted they will not be able to determine who are you. If they do, you may never receive a foot pedal.

Spoken like a true management person! NM - Excuse us?

I'm not afraid for anyone to see what I have to say, they should do what they say there are going to do and not act like they are doing me a big favor by giving me a job. As for never getting a footpedal, then I would move on and maybe get lucky and find a job out of this field, which is what I would really like to do, anyway.

geez.. - amazed

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess my perspective when I get a job is that they ARE doing me a big favor, especially in this economy!!

This is getting to the point of downright strange, now worrying about foot pedal spyware. LOL If one knows anything about computer systems, this would be extremely difficult, sophisticated and EXPENSIVE to do. You are taking it too personally. Get the chip off your shoulder and the already conceived thought that "they" are purposefully treating you badly.

You went through all the hassle of getting the job. Give it a chance. You will know soon if they aren't the company for you, and generally this will be based on something substantial and important.
just to clarify.....sm - annoyedMT

When I originally wrote my post, it was not regarding thinking that their footpedal can spy on me, it was just the fact that I am having such an issue GETTING the footpedal so that I can work for them!! I am giving it a chance, I have gone through training and doing some jobs already with no footpedal, it just got to me today when I found out it still would not be here.... sorry if I sounded unappreciative to have a job, but I have worked for a few MTSOs in the past 10 years, and this is by far the worst first impression I have had :(
The major issues I have with them is the horrible training and the even worse drafts - me
[ In Reply To ..]
that the editor produces. Training is nil and what little there is is terrible. The trainers are not nice, either, they "know it all" and if you ask any any questions you are treated like an idiot.
The edited drafts leave out every 1,2 or 3 letter word, and then frequently will skip phrases to paragraphs. But do not make the mistake of reporting this to a team lead or ROM or you get the threat of being fired because the editor and the primadonna staff that is in charge of that program are perfect.
I agree with you - ex-Transcend MT
[ In Reply To ..]
I thought the training was horrible, and there was not even enough time to digest it all. I felt like they wanted to get through it in a hurry. Does not make a difference whether they were nice or not, but whether they did a good job during the training process. They made you feel like you should get this right away, and why are you asking questions when you should know this information from what we taught!!! They were sort of condescending, and did not like questions all that much. My TL did ask me how the class went, and I did tell here that there was not enough time to pick up all the information. I did ask questions afterward, and my TL was not very understanding, and they do have primadonna staff. In fact, the trainers think they are soooo terrific.
totally agree about the training too... - annoyedMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I really think they rush through it as quickly as possible, so that they don't have to pay out any more than 4 hours or so in training pay. It almost seemed as though the trainer must have been told, "Get it done quickly no matter what"!!, cause she kept saying, "ok, moving along quickly, I need to go over this really quick", things like that.
My pet peeve - another transcender
[ In Reply To ..]
There is nothing more discouraging than to get a daily “eye-opener” e-mail that is nothing more than the proverbial back-side chewing. I know it is not always aimed at me, but why can’t they take the time to send these to the people who are screwing up, instead of berating everyone. It just shows how little training is given to their “management teams” as far as how to improve morale. A reminder once in a while is okay, but daily is a little hard to swallow.
sorry - about your foot pedal
[ In Reply To ..]
That is a pain. I hope your second impression of the company will be better. My own foot pedal has a tiny camera hidden inside it, and they can see right up my leg. Don't tell anyone I said that though. They are watching me right now. OMIGOSH, gotta cut the nonsense, I HAVE A JOB IN MY QUEUE!!! My heart is racing! I can't believe this! Gotta go!! This is not a joke!!

Too much information - Nick

[ In Reply To ..]
I sure hope that suit isn't too hot on these long summer days.....

but if you ARE lucky - ...

[ In Reply To ..]
Then they WILL determine who you are, and you will not have to work for them! The jobs in my queue have dropped dramatically since I have posted negatively about them, but you know what? I don't care. It may be a coincidence. It probably is. Bad conscience gives you paranoia. But I have put my foot in my mouth before and gotten in trouble for it, but what I said was deserved, and it was honest, and if it keeps anyone from wasting time with this company when they could be working for a legit operation, that's all I want to happen. Amen.

lucky - or not

[ In Reply To ..]
Oh wait a minute-- I got that backwards-- the jobs in my queue dropped dramatically and THEN I started posting negatively about Transcend! Whew! I feel better now. Why would I have time to make acerbic comments if I actually had WORK to do... LOL. I am also reassured that I am not so mean that I would say bad things about a company that actually kept me occupied!

This got me to thinking of a situation I had when I was much younger.

On the first day of a job, I was late. OMG, I even considered not showing up b/c I just KNEW they would look down on me from then on. Well, they actually did not. They believed me. Maybe if you could move your perspective in a little different direction, it would dissolve some of your frustration? Maybe they have a flat tire.

Just an idea.

Then it is is a FedEx problem - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If you can go to the FedEx site and track, then Transcend did their part, they shipped the pedal. My food pedal broke and I received one the next day.

food - pedal

[ In Reply To ..]
If it's a foot pedal, and MT is your only source of income, then it probably IS your *food* pedal. (Sorry-- I hate it when people make jokes about typos-- but I really like the idea of a food pedal!!)

okay, now I'm curious - what foot pedal is - compatible?

[ In Reply To ..]
does Transcend have a special program that needs a special foot pedal? Is it just the one acct? I don't know anything about Transcend so I have no ulterior motive. I ruled them out as a potential income source back in 1997 and haven't looked back. But all this talk about foot pedal spyware has me curious about what type of pedal is compatible with their software.

I think most people get the Infinity USB pedal. Does this one not work for them?

Tech guy told me USB-2 is the - right pedal for Transcend. NM

[ In Reply To ..]
.

This one works fine with BeyondTXT. - cannot speak for any other models

[ In Reply To ..]
http://www.theprogrammers.com/wavp.html

I owned it before I went to work for Transcend, and had no trouble whatsoever getting it to work on BeyondTXT. I just plugged it in.

And since it's my OWN pedal, I don't think they're using it to track me... unless they broke into my house when I wasn't looking and installed a hidden camera down near where my feet go....

wonder how many ppl are looking at their pedals! - compatible?

[ In Reply To ..]
The two I currently use are both the IN-USB-1 models. I'm pretty sure my third one in storage is the same. Would probably be nice of them to mention in their ads (if they don't already).

I'm So Disgusted! (sm)
Mar 06, 2012

I'm so disgusted I almost can't stand it. I have a small midwest transcription business and I live paycheck to paycheck like the rest of you do, struggling to pay my bills in this economy and pay my subcontractors a fair wage at the same time. I've gotten a few emails from a Mike Jones from Cat Technologies lately (as well as a linked-in request) informing me that they offer MT services at 5 cents per line for a 65 character line, 12-24 hr TAT with outsourcing to India. ...

Very Disgusted With Testing At Most Companies.

I have spent days and days doing testing for several companies and either get ignored or some saying my scores were not high enough or they are not hiring after all.  This is really such a waste of time.  lThen after telling you they are no longer hiring, you see them advertising again the next day.  So, what is going on???  I am sure it is not just me having this kind of experience.  I have loads of experience -- 30 years and have done everything under the sun -- Radiio ...
