Posted: Feb 19, 2010
Can any one shed light on whether Spheris MT and Editors are let go because of their fire sale to MedQuist? Are they losing any accounts? Which ones?
Help please.

I would guess that MQ would be taking on their employees and accounts but could possibly be on probation since they are in essense new employees.
4200 MTs on probation? Hope MQ has a lot of QAs. - nm
hahaha MQ got rid of ALL their QAs quite a while back - L&L

They are now MMEs at 3/cpl. All it takes, if I remember correctly, is 6 mos experience at tier 2 to test for MME (but you need to be craaaazy too).
4200? I didnt think there were 4200 MTs in the entire - country, let alone one company!

I don't know what changes are coming with this possible Spheris buy. Right now there are many areas that have so much of the work outsourced to India there isn't enough for the actual USA employees. I wouldn't be surprised if they simply merge Spheris into the current areas and spread the work around to all including India.
I guess we'll have to see what happens.
IMO Spheris merge will produce more work for MQ MTs.sm - nm

Spheris has many accounts that need more help and make that more experienced help.
MedQuist is also taking on transcriptionists from some hospitals, - cutting back on their transcription departments

I have a girlfriend working at St. Joseph's and they are cutting back their transcription departments at these hospitals (in several cities around the country) and MedQuist is going to be taking on the transcriptionists that these hospitals decide not to keep. They are also going to be doing some of the work for these hospitals. So, it looks like they are not only taking on Spheris but they are also getting these accounts from St. Joseph's Hospitals.

I've spent most of my day reading MQ policies, etc., and finding a lot of it hard to take in. Seems like MTs are being punished. I am anticipating feeling extreme stress with every report I transcribe. I'm trying to have a positive attitude but it is hard. Anything good to hear right now would be welcoming...... This is my second round with MQ and I'm surprised just how many changes and not so sure they are good changes. Anything good to hea ...
What was your line count before, and now with the POD? Is it all VR? How much ST? Another question. What tier are you? Are all 3 tiers on the PODS? If so, how does that work? ...
From an article in Huffington Post:

This is an article about the outsourcing of hotel maids and staff. It is a bit different than our industry, but some similarities are striking: "In some cases, the housekeepers are expected to clean roughly twice as many rooms as they were just a few years ago, often working off the clock to meet their quota and avoid being disciplined. As t ...
If you work on Veterans Administration (VA) accounts, you MUST be classified as an employee and earn the appropriate wage determination rate (in the neighborhood of $14 to $20-plus an hour depending on county). In addition, you must have a separate hourly rate of pay that is applied towards a benefits package.
If you are doing this kind of work and are not properly classified or you are not being paid what you're supposed to be paid, REPORT YOUR MTSO TO THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR. ...
I just got hired onto an account that is both VR and straight transcription. I've never done VR before and I'm a bit concerned about how it's going to affect my pay. Can anyone give me their experience on this? Looking at 0.04 cpl is daunting, because I type REALLY fast and I feel like I could almost straight type it for 0.08 cpl in the time it will take me to edit it. For those of you who have experience with it, how did you feel as far as the income you w ...
Hey Spheris MTs out there. I worked for Spheris for a while not too long ago but quit for another company. Nothing wrong with Spheris at all, just love the new company flexibility much, much more. I loved the expander program Spheris used (Shorthand 10.0) so much that I ended up buying the program to use on my new job. Problem is there are so many tips and tricks that Spheris provided for using Shorthand 10.0 that I never got to put into action and quit before I thou ...
my friend claims she only made $11000 with spheris last yr. but yet she had health benefits and 401K. how is it she's making so little is spheris really that bad of a company to work for . i've heard so many different stories i don't know what to believe anymore ...
Should we have a W2 from MQ as well as from Spheris? Was just putting my info together to have taxes done & don't understand the 2 from Spheris but noticed I don't have one that says MQ.
Thanks in advance. ...
Had nightmares about my company last night. I was told to go in the office of my boss and do some punishment work. I sat there in front of this blank computer, would not turn on, and something said to sit in her chair, since she was not there, and start opening all the books and do the worksheets about what a bad person/MT I was. Then, she popped up in the back of the office in black. Scary, evil woman! She said terrible things, and just as I kept telling myself thi ...
Is there anyone out there who has worked for Spheris and other large companies? If so, how does Spheris compare? Looking for other opportunities, but don't want to end up in a worse situation :) In particular, has anyone worked for both Spheris and Webmedx?
thanks ...

By closing the curtains on its finances, Spheris has opened the door to speculation regarding its future. Whispers range from a sale to a bankruptcy, with the former gaining steam in the past week after a blogger in India reported competitor Cbay Systems Ltd. had struck a deal to buy Spheris’ operations in that country.
Both Spheris and Cbay declined to address the potential sale. Spheris has ...
I had an interview with Spheris yesterday. It sounds too good to be true - more per line than I'm making now, plus production bonus and weekend shift differential? And better insurance too. Okay. I worked for MQ. My check got smaller and smaller as they revamped the bonuses and brought in VR (which absolutely refused to be taught anything). So tell me the truth - would I be jumping back into the same fire with Spheris? ...
I'm not sure if this is a good move for me, especially after reading an article on them that was linked from this board. Recruiter says they have loads of work, but they seem really regimented. Anyone work for them and want to share? Thanks. ...
Ok, Spheris wants to schedule a phone interview. I have not taken a test as of yet. Has anyone been interviewed without testing? Is the testing after the interview or do they not test or what?
I know, why would I consider working for them? No job, that's why. Need part-time job. ...
