Questions about Spheris - ipodgirl

Does anyone know if Spheris sends their work overseas? How are they to work for? Do they have editing positions? Is the rate of pay any good?

Spheris bought HealthScribe lock, stock and barrel and HS was sending a huge amount of work to Bangalore, India. Spheris did not curtail that. I no longer work for them but what I hear from my friends who do still work for them is that it's becoming harder and harder to make a living there. Caveat emptor.

Yes, they do offshore work. I quit working for them because I was constantly out of work, communication was not very good (I had a very poor supervisor), and I had to work their schedule and not what worked for me (I needed a split shift). Pay was about average for acute care.

I worked for them for 7 years (my first national) and I was happy with them until about 2-3 years ago. Used to have good pay, the PTO was good, they were flexible about the schedule and let me do a split, as much overtime as I wanted (paid) and I enjoyed the work. Then - switched to clunky platform, bad VR program, more notpicky QA, frantic supervisors, running out of work, no overtime. Could not make a living. Left earlier this year.

I believe it depends on what your expectations are. When I started with them, I was a newbie and learned a lot there. I left, though, a couple years ago because I could not keep up (and make money) with my accounts changing all the time. It was crazy.

I agree, I too learned a lot there as a relative newbie. I really got to know op reports, cardiac procedures, got to work on a lot of different types of facilities, every kind of ESL...I think I am quite versatile as an MT because of my experience there. Just could not make a living there anymore. I think the training program for newbies is pretty good... I did some QA for it and saw how the MTs were improving over a period of months.

Hey Spheris MTs out there. I worked for Spheris for a while not too long ago but quit for another company. Nothing wrong with Spheris at all, just love the new company flexibility much, much more. I loved the expander program Spheris used (Shorthand 10.0) so much that I ended up buying the program to use on my new job.
