OTI - to the "sour grapes" - You should consider

Posted: Mar 19, 2013

yourselves lucky!  Yes lucky!  I've been reading all these posts for a while.  I like you was concerned when the T account went from win to NJA.  I've had my own accounts before having owned my own company and sometimes you have to add more MTs to an account as you made your client a promise to deliver in time.  When it got close to Thanksgiving, Christmas time and we were almost always out of TAT, warnings were sent.  Shopping, Holidays, gatherings were more important.  The company had no choice but to hire more MTs to keep in TAT.  Still even with having NJA mostly during the week, we are out of TAT on the weekend and on a pay date.  NO I am not management with OTI.

I'll tell you who I am.  I am a person who was comfy in a job of 15 years until 2 years ago when my MTSO lost an account to India and there I was lost.  I went to a company as an "employee" but was not given hours, the platform was OMG!  You saw every single job in the system and even tho you were suppose to pick the latest one first, they didn't.  There were times when someone would even take your job!  It was horrible.  QA, QA, QA - you missed a comma, it is follow up not followup, evulsion/avulsion.  I then went with another smaller company.  Oh it was wonderful!  I loved it. Had lots of work.  It then got sold to M*Modal (the warning signs were all of a sudden QA% and QA quality).  A living nightmare then set it.  I stuck it out with M*Modal as long as I could.  I had work -- at first.  I had 3 accounts, then 2 accounts, then 1 account, then NJA.  Constant QA ALL DAY LONG!  Surveys, conferences on line, studying all that I did not get paid for.  I finally could not support my family. I had to find something else.

So then I went with 2 other companies.  "Company A" and OTI.  Company A was bad.  It's a semicolon, not a comma.  You cap this, you don't cap that.  On top of 100% ESL,  they had a monitor on my computer to this day I cannot remove, even though I was an independent contractor.  It took me forever and a day to get out of QA.  Unlike OTI where I was out of QA in about a week or less. I left them after being there for 3 months and dedicate my time to OTI.  I have a friend who joined at the same time, is still there and stresses everyday.  She has to have a QA% and QA quality every month and has yet to make a decent living.

Come on you MTs!  Don't bash a good, good company.  You don't know how good you have it until you yourself have to go back into the trenches.  They gave us the job and we gave them a commitment, but some don't keep it!  We committed to producing quality work at X-number of lines per day.  Some do, some don't.  We are not QA'd to death.  We don't get QA% every month or QA quality every month.  They don't call us on commas, sentence structure, etc.  Yes!  We do get e-mails on ADT (wrong ADT is a severe violation of HIPAA), yes we get them on formatting and too many blanks.  On top of all that my pay has never been late, never short (sometimes more than what I thought) and always paid unlike some.

Time for the bashing to stop!  Sign me off as a very happy OTI IC MT and loving it!

So those who consistently keep their commitment should be punished sm - Another OTIer

with the bad? That hardly seems fair. Get rid of the ones who do not honor their commitments instead of saturating the count and punishing EVERYONE.

As for not being QA'd to death, no ... but AK certainly knows how to get her nasty jabs in, as if she sits on the high throne of MT-hood, looking down on the lowly stupid beings she is forced to oversee.

Could it be worse? Of course. I have always loved OTI and that is why I complain because it doesn't have to be like this.

People who have to stand on their heads in mud all day might be happy that they are not standing in , but it still doesn't mean that the mud is enjoyable.

I've been at OTI a long time. I never bashed and always defended until the last 2-3 months. When I don't have work, I'm unhappy. when I suddenly can't pay my bills, not happy. When the work got low, accounts were taken from me with no explanation. Just gone, poof! I sent several e-mails asking why, no answer. Just because we are ICs doesn't mean we don't at least deserve communication.

I had responded to this, but - did not show up

We all have to take the good with the bad, we take the good dictators gladly and when the bad one is next in line if we have ethics we take that. We leave as little blanks as possible, TRY to adhere to the 5 minute rule, follow HIPAA, the BOS, etc. What we expect in return is enuf work to pay our bills, but that is not a guarantee. Same as it is not a guarantee to the MTSO as we are ICs that we will show up on any give day and put out the # of lines we committed to.

So, playing Devil's advocate here, what exactly is an MTSO to do if the account is consistently out of TAT? They prodded us, they poked all of us back in Nov and Dec. Ya'll left them no choice but to hire more MTs to keep the account. Did you really want them to lose it? We'd all be out of work, instead of hoping for work, some (like myself) making about 1/2 of what I did a couple of months ago.

Can you tell me why some of you consistently pick on AK? Have you talked to her? Do you have her on your ICQ? Do you even use that to communicate with OTI? I would liken this with a M*A*S*H episode I saw with Margaret Hullahan (sp?) and her nurses when she kept punishing them and banned food in their tents, even coffee. The nurses said "why don't you like us Major?" She said "I'm a person too. I like to talk. I like to do my nails, but you never even invited me for a cup of coffee."

YES, I had AK on ICQ until SHE stopped communicating with ME. - sm

She got upity about something I said, snapped at me and never would answer my questions again. I think she deleted me, so I deleted her after about a month of no answers.

that AK would just love it if we were all bothering her on ICQ. Ridiculous.

Both of the A's usually have their "busy" sign on with ICQ, and sm - OTIer

I agree with the other poster that I am sure that they do not want to be hounded all day with messages. I have talked with AK and, although she was not hateful with me personally, she did speak nastily about others (not by name) and I did not get a good impression. She talks like all of the MTs at OTI are morons, and her feelings come out in her nastygrams she sends out to the masses. I know she is frustrated, stressed, and overworked, but a professional puts those feelings aside when wording emails to coworkers. A little bit of tact, diplomacy, courtesy and respect never killed anyone.
We "morons" give her job security. We have none. nm - Sunny

completely agree - not management either

I have to say that I really like OTI as well. I learned years ago, however, not to put all my eggs in one basket. I have another job (2 in fact) to supplement my income in slow times. This is a feast or famine industry. If there was so much work that they were asking you to work extra, you would all be complaining that you have no time off, etc.

I have to agree that AK is curt, but not knowing her in person, I can't speak to her nastiness. I do think that both of the A's are harder to "talk" to than the sisters, who I find are very easy to talk to and very nice.

No job, no matter what company it is with, is going to have 100% of their employees happy all the time. I guess I am under the thought process of if it's truly that miserable for you to be there, then leave. More work for us!

Yeah for what you said - You should consider

[ In Reply To ..]
Yep! If you are that miserable that you would post hurtful words here about someone you obviously don't care to know at all and then slam a company that basically leaves us alone to do our jobs, then leave. I would certainly enjoy the extra work also!

AK may be QA, she may be curt at times, but you don't know her at all. We all have a story, we all have our trials in life.

I have 2 rules when communicating with QA: Never argue! and You get more bees with honey than salt!

I think it's smart of people who come here looking for a recommendation on a company to realize that the vast majority of posts that you read here are people who are no longer with a particular company, who continually blast them, who jump in always to make sure to say  how bad their experience was.  And maybe it was.  But I think these people are very much in the minority and not at all to be considered as majority.  Every company has something someone is not goin ...

Proscript Sour Grapes Much?
Mar 13, 2010

Wow, you know it is amazing how aggressively vitriolic one person can be when they can't accept change.  Is Proscript perfect?  No, and there is not one company out there that is PERFECT.  All this whining and moaning about VR, folks we have known in the industry this was coming and would be a HUGE deal for 10+ years!  There is money to be made but it is a different mindset.  Saddle up or move on.  Proscript's VR is no worse than any other, as a mat ...
