Keystrokes Radiology MTs - NCMT

Posted: Mar 09, 2011

I see that Keystrokes is hiring for radiology.  I have read some of the feeds on Keystrokes, but was wondering if radiology MTs were having similar issues.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Many of us do not have enough work and have asked for extra accounts.

Some of us have too much work and have been on OT. sm - Other side of the coin

I talk to the lead over my account often, as we are friends, and she says that all of her accounts are busy.

As a previous lead at Keystrokes, I know that the scheduling for radiology is a delicate balance, and when you get the right balance, you keep it that way, even if it means offering overtime when especially busy or someone goes on vacation or is ill. The accounts are not overstaffed, although if an account has a lot of stat reports or a very short turnaround time, it may seem that way.

Pay cuts? 4% is not that much. I was cut over 20% at the last company I worked for and that is a very large national. Keystrokes still pays higher than most other companies for radiology. I have been with KS over 7 years and know that the paycheck issue is not the norm and won't happen again.

To the poster without enough work, go above your lead if necessary to get another or different account or find out if there is a reason they are not helping you. I know that when I was a lead, there were people I definitely would not do anything extra for, the ones who did nothing but complain, cherry picked, started late every shift or ended early, never helped when asked and were just very unpleasant no matter what the situation was. Are you one of those people? If not, go above your lead, even to the CEO if you need to.

Then you are a lucky one.

how do you know the paycheck thing won't happen again? is not a sign of - things going south? chitchat with owner?

JUST WONDERING HOW...CLOSE...THE INFO.
Not the OP but I did talk to the owner. sm - KS RAD MT

I decided to just pick up the phoneand call her, and I was pleasantly surprised that she took my call! Things are definitely not going south; they've just had a lot of trouble with their new payroll system. She said that's it's all in place now, and I am not worried.

If things were bad, they would not have purchased the Chartnet company last fall. She told me that both companies doing well and that there are new accounts that have either started or are starting. The paycuts were preventative, not desperate. I had to agree with her that if they were desperate, they would have been a lot more than the 5 cents per report that most of us were lowered. That's radiology; it looked like Medical Records all had 1/4 cpl or so. I also understand that they had to be done because of all the reasons they listed Even with the cut, I make 20 cents more per report than I know of other companies paying.

If you were to talk to the owner, via phone or email, you would feel her excitement and would feel very confident that Keystrokes is going to continue to grow and to treat employees well. I know it helped me.
Keystrokes is buying the company I work for. Things cannot be that bad. sm - MOM MT

I heard they were buying a few companies. I am excited to have benefits, tired of being an IC. I was going to apply there and then heard this from my supervisor. I don't think it's supposed to be public yet, but I do believe that it's happening.

I was so excited to get on with KS since I had heard they were one of the decent companies. I do love the account I'm on, I will tell you that. They leave you alone to type... no constant emails at least. I'm on late 2nd shift and the work would fall off after midnite so I asked for another account and got a new one to KS that's editing. I still need more work but it's better now. I'd definitely apply... what the heck. Go for it!

usually when work 'falls off and midnight' means senging overseas - my experience elsewhere.

That is something they don't do, and they make sure that everyone knows it. I am proud to work there. I have talked to many people over the years in management, as recent as 2 days ago, and that is still something important to them.

Pretty strange that you are asking about KS when down below you state you have been working for them, what is up with that?

I, obviously, am not the only NCMT on this site. - Wow with your attitude!

My goodness! Thanks to all who replied!

I haven't done rad for them but acute care and I like them - very much. (sm)

I get a decent line rate (9 cpl) and they have been wonderfully flexible for me in getting the best schedule.

My QA/PC is on IM the entire time I am working and answers me immediately.

Been with them now about 10 weeks.

Radiology Pay?
Nov 11, 2009

I have been working acute care for the last 5 years and getting paid by the line.  I haven't done radiology in a few years, and when I was working in radiology I always got paid by the hour.  Now a local hospital is interested in my helping them out on the weekends with their radiology backlog, and are wanting to pay by report, but I have no idea what the average pay per report should be.  Can someone give some idea as to what I should be asking for?  Thanks ...

Question For Radiology MTs

I always have docs saying "a 5 mm foci" in the liver.  Since foci is plural of focus, shouldn't it be a 5 mm focus?  This isn't an isolated case, have heard many doctors over many years say this, have NEVER heard anyone dictate "a focus" -- they always say "a foci".  Is this rad-slang or am I crazy or what? ...
