Help deciding between 2 different companies - one IC and one employee

I need some help deciding what to do and wonder if you could offer your thoughts.

I currently work for one company as an IC that will be switching everything over to ASR and cutting my line rate down to 4 cpl because "this is the industry standard."

But, I have another company that I recently sent a resume to, which also offered me 4 cpl for ASR, but this company would be an employee position with benefits (medical, dental, PTO, etc).

I really do like my old company, but for only 4 cpl on ASR, it seems to me that it would probably be better for me to take the employee position as opposed to keeping the IC position.

What would you do in my situation? Same pay, but take the new one with benefits or keep the old one without benefits?

Out of that 4 cpl for benefits, you will still be paying for part of the benefits so don't forget to factor that in. No one is giving bennies for nuttin' these days.

As an IC, if you got your own benefits, they are a write-off. As an employee, they are not.

At your current gig, you're likely already familiar with their process, work availability, accounts, etc. Also these days, it sometimes pays to stay with the devil you know versus the devil you don't.

I'd go to the employee position. They contribute to your SS, so that is like an add in pay, s - Job-Seeking MT

rather than you having to pay the whole portion yourself in self-employment tax. Generally, insurance is cheaper when offered through an employer, and if they have a 401k and other bennies, even better. JMO, though. Good luck in whatever you choose.

if you lose your benefits as an employee if you fall below a certain level of production. Another point to ponder, is whether in these uncertain times, if you'd like to be able to qualify for unemployment, should that become necessary, whereas as an IC, I'm pretty sure that is not an option.

Can anyone answer me why is it that these MT companies hire you and they all promise you the sun, moon and stars. Oh we have TONS of work. We guarantee you at least 11 accounts and 2,500 lines a day. pay us hourly anymore anyway make us punch an electronic time clock? What's wrong with sending simple timesheets like we did for years? The company I work for has gone VR (on most jobs). I cannot make any money doing this. My pay has been cut approximately $150 to $200 every two weeks. They have already taken away the incentives, and now if you screw up a couple of times on demographics, you do not get paid for the job, and the third or fourth time you are pulled from the account. So, I see it all of the time, people on here complaining about no work, yet the company they are complaining about is HIRING. My job recently did this as well. I am day after day running out of work, but yet I see an ad that they are hiring! I e-mailed the owner and asked about it and she didn't reply. I got an email yesterday telling me that I didn't meet the quota of 10,000 lines for the last pay period... well, duh... There is not enough work. Periodically, I will cruise the MT help wanted, and see some companies that list the system requirements as "must have XP." My question is this: I wonder if they mean must have at least XP or do they mean MUST HAVE XP. I find it difficult to believe that any system out there only works with XP, as Vista has been around for a good long while and even Windows 7 (which I wish DocQ would update to) has been out for a bit.
