Acc. IRS.gov website, if you are an IC, you are - NOT an employee. sm Posted: Dec 14th, 2024 - 1:13 pm In Reply to: MT Job - NewMT
You are considered self-employed and will be responsible for self-employment taxes (State/Federal, Medicare, Social Security -- if I remember correctly). These various taxes will REALLY cut into your take home pay. I bring this up because you said that you would be accepting an employee position. Additionally, there really shouldn't be a contract for an employee position and no IRS 1099 Forms.
I agree with the gal who questioned the need for your bank account info. That is something to be discussed with the HR Dept. once you accept the position, but instead, it sounds like HR is part of the recruiting process. Hmmm.
Personally, I would be hesitant too because the company has not given you the most important info -- how much? Based on the amount and conditions (pay by word, page, line, spaces/no spaces, headers/footers included, etc.), the folks on this board could tell you INSTANTLY if it was a scam based on the pay amount info.
You've done a lot of research, but it will all be in vain if the pay is 4 cents a line. A previous poster asked about the pay -- can you post it?
Good luck to you as you go forward.
