Problem is that when MTs retire, they like to keep - their hand in the work.

No pun intended but a little extra cash is always needed upon retirement especially for MT as none of us got paid very well to begin with. So why hire people with no experience when the seasoned MT is ready, willing and able to work part time upon retirement? I think it boils down to inexperienced management. They would not know a seasoned MT from a newbie with no experience. Remember when they had the refer a friend and get a bonus? Well, once you refer that friend, your job is gone. They hire your friend to replace you. LOL. So you've recruited your own replacement for them. Snakes in the grass.
