on line and received it the same day by email, and then received a paper copy a few weeks later in the mail. Being a sole proprietor, it was never needed. You only need a TIN if you yourself have ICs or employees working for you. Always used my SS number instead.
I have always used the home office deduction, unless things have changed between last year and this year, which I have not heard of happening. consult a tax consultant to be sure. Maybe with so many people moving from their outside office to a home office, things have changed some as far as requirements.
