You want to make the disk itself damaged so it doesnt spin. That's the reason for drilling or breaking it or whatever else. If it doesnt spin, it cant be put into another computer to recover the information.

I can guarantee you water does not work; I had all my data recovered from a laptop that had water spilled inside it.

Acid or chemicals are not recommended for people to use.

Best bet is to wipe it with a program and then you can take it out and try to break it up if you're that worried about it.
