I just started working there... Mostly good. A little bad. - MT2 Posted: Dec 26th, 2019 - 7:45 pm In Reply to: Any more info on World Wide Dictation - such as
I haven't gotten a paycheck yet from them, because I started work on December 10th or so and only transcribed 2 jobs on the 13th before the end of the last pay period. I'm working on the Insurance side of the outfit: Transcribing phone calls between a claims representative and a policy holder who has been in a car accident. No difficult terminology, but the recordings are only average sound quality. Also, the account is strict verbatim, so they want "uh" and "um" and "(cough)" included in the transcription. There is no sending of individual jobs to proofing. If you have a blank, just type (inaudible) and keep going.
The company mails out checks, which is annoying. I submitted my invoice on December 17th and the check hasn't arrived yet... but it's Christmas so I'm not surprised. I would say that with invoice submission/processing, mailing time, depositing the check, waiting for the check to clear, you're realistically looking at two weeks after the end of a pay period before you have the money in the bank.
Another thing that is annoying is that you have to submit a detailed invoice that lists every job you complete. It just takes half a minute to log each job. You do a character count in each job you do, divide by 65, multiply by CPL, and assign a dollar value to each job. So you apparently get paid exactly what you put on the invoice. Also, you have to manually add all the client and document information into the template for each job you type.
The pay is 8 CPL base rate. Plus you get a 10% CPL daily bonus if you transcribe 90 minutes of work (8.8 CPL). Or you get a 15% CPL daily bonus if you transcribe 120 minutes of work (9.2 CPL). Additionally, if you earn over $1500 per month, they will pay you a $150 production bonus.
The company uses the Trillian chat app to communicate, which is convenient. I work nights though, so nobody is on to ask questions, and I find that sometimes when I ask questions, they do not get answered. I have been apologized to for that and told that it is because they are busy hiring people and things are hectic. Still, you do get the sense you are on your own with this company. QA'd documents apparently will wind up in a Dropbox folder for you to look at, but only the first jobs I typed have been put there. So I'm not sure how much feedback to expect regularly.
Just starting out, I am averaging about 250-300 lines per hour. This is slightly below what I do with medical transcription (325-375 lines per hour). I don't expect this to increase much because there are no doctors to get used to or anything like that.
The best part about this job is that they have unlimited work. Weekends, overnight: Whenever you want to work, there is stuff to do. Second best part is that they pay industry standard or higher for straight typing. Those two things are pretty much all you can hope for from a transcription job these days.
The worst part about this job is that you pretty much have to fill in all the report information manually in the template, save the document manually, and add all of the transcription information on your invoice. I would say it adds about 90 to 120 seconds of "housekeeping" to every job (which averages about 6 or 7 minutes in length). The second worst part about the job is the mailed checks. Also a bit of a problem is that I find their transcription software ("Audioworxs") to be a bit clunky and finicky. Sometimes you have to try two or three times to get a job to upload. That kind of thing.
That pretty much covers it all.
