I'm not sure that was the point. We are so disenfranchised as it is, and the whole IC concept is based on hypocrisy. We are made to feel important and then shown that we are not. After giving up and signing some 15-page contract defining us as business associates, we are then humiliated even further by programs and processes that refer to us as employees. Being an IC is fine if you're treated like one. Being an employee is also fine when you have what is included in the definition. But being an IC who has to wear the scarlet E is humiliating. It grinds self-esteem down to less than zero. To the OP, I feel your pain.
