TAA benefits - Smoke

Posted: Aug 15th, 2019 - 2:47 pm In Reply to: What is the Trade Act? - Have not heard of this.

I qualified for TAA benefits when I was laid off from Nuance last year. I decided to go back to school for Health Information Management. The list of approved retraining programs for my state and school ranged from truck driving to nursing.

I also receive TRA (Trade Readjustment Allowance) in the amount of my unemployment every week that I'm enrolled in classes (Fall and Spring semesters until I finish my degree in 2 years).

I apply for financial aid but only accept the grants. Since schooling is paid for, all books and tuition, the grant money is mine to keep. I usually use it during the summer when I'm not receiving TRA money.

A representative at your local UE office should be able to help you. It was a simple process for me. If you have problems at the local office, contact the state office.
