More thoughts - Also outsourced

My on site department was also outsourced 4 or 5 years ago. I transitioned to a QC editor position and did that for a couple of years. I’m in the HIM Department now and my involvement in transcription is minimal except for occasional backup, we only keep one document type on site and I know of no hospitals in my area who still have traditional MT departments. Working for a university hospital would be awesome, and it is possible that they’ve had quality issues with outsourcing and need to bring it back, they might just be hiring for a certain department rather than the entire facility. A question I would be sure to ask is if they use Epic and if so your days are probably numbered. The trend that I see is that they hire staff to get over a backlog during the conversion and then cut back on staffing, don’t be afraid to inquire about the longevity of your position. I think most facilities use BOS 3 if they use anything; regardless, they probably have facility guidelines for transcription. I can’t speak to healthcare going down the tubes, everyone on my team at work gets paid well, most employers have a pay scale that they follow and usually don’t arbitrarily cut anyone’s pay. I’m sure you will do well on your interview, you’ll probably be surprised at how much you remember, some skill tests are even “open book.” Sorry to be long winded, I hope this is going to be a permanent job for you.
