Just received a W-2 from a company I've never worked for - nor ever HEARD of Posted: Feb 5th, 2019 - 10:16 pm
After googling the name of the company (it is not the name of an MTSO or health provider) with the address listed, it was easy to determine that they don't actually exist. The address is on the coast opposite me. The payroll company is ADP (not the payroll service my MTSO uses). It has my correct name, SSN, and mailing address. When I googled this info, I saw that someone had posted 11 days ago on reddit the exact same scenario happening to them, with the same exact company name and address. I am contacting the SSA, IRS, and at least one of the 3 main credit reporting agencies.
I'm curious if anyone else here has experienced this. If so, I would appreciate any tips on how to proceed. Obviously, at worst, someone has stolen my SSN and identity and has done God knows what else with it. This is pretty discouraging, especially since I'm very careful with my personal info, rarely purchase anything online, shred all hard copies with personal info, and am on NO social media like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. I don't bank or pay bills online, and I won't even put my SSN on forms at the doctor, etc.
