I am new here on this forum. I have been in medical transcription for over 35 years. I have always worked for different clinics, hospitals, or individual doctor's offices. I never worked for a transcription company. 2018 has been a bad year. I got laid off from my two jobs that I worked due to changing over to a "new" voice recognition" that they decided to correct themselves and eliminate me after 15 years. I heard they paid over a million dollars for the new system. Anyway, at 61 years old, I didn't see this coming, nor had I planned to retire at this time. I probably could have and should have planned better for retirement but the money was good and I took vacations and didn't hold onto the money like I should. That's water under the bridge and I can't go back and change my spending habits. I don't know nothing about this new way of virtual dictation or virtual dictation infrastructure. I don't know what the heck all this is. I am old school. I have done the editing but learned it on my own, but now I don't think I know how to edit because you need to know the F keys and alt keys to edit and I never used them either. Like I said, I am old school, on the job training back in 1980 where you learned to do everything in a Medical Records Department. I am finding I don't even know what a lot of these new abbreviations for transcribing are. I didn't learn initially on a computer, it was a typewriter. I know, maybe I sound dumb but I'm not dumb, just not exposed to all this new stuff. Now, to get to my subject, "MedVoice". It is an Indian guy that I talked to. I have never worked for a transcription company. I am supposed to go to work for them. I don't want to work for nothing and I think 3.5 cents a line is nothing. I made 10 cents a line 20 years ago. But I have had a time finding a job since being let go. After reading some of the comments on here about MedVoice, not sure now I want to do this for this company. Can someone explain to me the confusion about MedVoice being run by the Indian guy and the pretense that is being associated with MedVoice. I wasn't really understanding where the connection is here or what the connection is to other things. Was it formally a different company name run by the same people. I did have a phone call from him from a North Carolina number and I did have a learning session on line with several other new transcriptionists about the system Edit Script that we would be working on and there was another person logged into the session from overseas, I believe, not sure exactly where but it was overseas. Would be hired for transcription of a Canadian account. Initially, said I would straight type but then learned the words in Canada are different, such as color is colour, odor is odour, humor is humour, license is licence, maneuver is manoeuvre and many more. Can someone elaborate on this place and why I should not work for them. I am 95% sure I'm going to turn it down but I just wanted some more info before I do.
