They sell your email to "third parties." You can opt out of emails from Ancestry, but they cannot stop the third parties from emailing you. This is stated on their Terms and Conditions. I got dozens and dozens of emails weekly from the third parties. Never stopped.
Also, make sure you opt out of them owning your DNA results. If you don't, they keep them on file.
