Such a thing as an intravenous line allergy? - Not word help, but need help nonetheless

Posted: Jun 02, 2012

Doc says clearly "allergy to intravenous lines."  I'm just wondering if there is such a thing.  The only thing I can think of is an allergy to the material, or the patient said it to be funny and this ESL doc took her seriously.

That's a Tough One - Type as dictated

That's rough, could be the patient is allergic to some sort of contrast dye or other medicine in the line, or the latex tape (or other material) they use to attach the line.

I would personally just type as dictated and let the reader beware. There's no way for you to know.

It is possible to develop an allergy to just about anything - sm

Sometimes when they say the patient has an allergy to something, they mean they tested and are certain it is to a particular thing. Other times, it is a presumed allergy . . . you get a rash from latex gloves, or your mouth swells after eating strawberries, or you wheeze after eating wheat.

In this case, it might be the material. Maybe it is what goes along with the line, like the skin prep or tape. Whatever, something is wrong.

I think it might be "allergy to intravenous dyes."

OTC Allergy Meds
Nov 07, 2009

Hi, I'm transcribing a doctor's note that's describing the patient's allergies and how the patient has tried various OTC drugs, including 'pseudometafecin' but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to spell that correctly; I've tried all of the different variations that I can think of (sudometofecin, pseudometaphecin, etc.) and tried looking up 'allergy medications' and coming up with squat. I have a feeling I'm very close to how it may ...

One More Thing!
Mar 11, 2010

Just one more thought.  I have never, ever, known anyone who has left Medquist or Spheris and regretted it.  They may bounce back and forth just to get by, but in the long run, when they are finally finished, they are finished.  For all of those MTs who don't want to start over, please don't take that attitude.  I did and it only got worse and when I did change it wasn't that bad at all.  Again, could it get any worse?  ...
