What speech-wreck products does M*Modal - sell to other companies? -s/m

Posted: Dec 07, 2013

I work for another company, and they recently got a speech-wreck program that I believe has some M*Modal software in it.  Do they have SR software that is specifically for radiology? Also, if a company purchases SR software that has M*Modal's stamp on it, how likely is it that the purchasing company might be in line to get taken over by M*Modal?  Because if that happens, I'm out of there.

I'd start looking for a job - and soon

Supposedly their new rad software does not require MTs.

True. Docs are starting to edit their own. I'm - already looking for other work. nm

Go to the MModal site to see the products. - dnr

MModal actually makes more money on software sales than transcription accounts according to a company report I saw.

Yes, they do have a speech program just for radiology. They want to do away with the "cost" of transcriptionists. The radiologists are expected to edit their SR, but, in my experience, they won't. Pennywise and pound foolish when it comes to opening up themselves (doctors and facilities) to lawsuits.

Your facility getting MM SR software just means they bought the software, not that they are trying to take over the facility. If there is still a transcription department, they will try to sign them up as clients, and then it is bye-bye medical transcriptionists.

The company getting signed up as M*Modal - clients is what my gut is telling me. :(

We are training our replacement. While we moan and groan we are training ASR. Once they figure out how to make it actually train we are out of here. The docs or their students will edit it. Notice how the really tough dictators, the ones you kind of "guess" on by previous reports are now being filled in? Almost like a kind of "standard" say PE? The same way I used to make generic reports before ASR ever even started and just changed it around? Its coming, we are gone you watch. They are tweeking, granted, they have been tweeking for years, eventually they will get it right and we are replaced by computers and a medical student. Add in the EMR, yes we are toast. I'm hoping to get the last 2 years out of it that I need.
Agree, but just clarifying - sm

You are correct...you are training the software (front-end Sr) that will replace you and you absolutely do need to find another job very soon.

Front-end SR will not involve "editing" by an MT. The MTs' belief that they will always be required to "edit" is inaccurate. FR SR is done right in front of the dictator as he speaks, in the EHR, and he signs right then. He des not talk into a phone and get a piece of paper or an e-report a day later to "edit."

No one else is involved. The dctator himself does this. Medical students ARE NOT USED TO DO THIS. I have not ever heard anything about using medical students for this purpose except here on this board. It doesn't even make sense.

If you think it would be possible for them to do this, you don't understand medical education, FR SR, or the way EHRs are structured.

Medical students do not work in doctor offices. They have other work to do in hospitals. They would be unable to make truly necessary edits because those edits are so significant that only the dictator would know what they are. Nobody cares about typos, spelling, and punctuation.

The structure of medical records usually prevents anything like this. Only the dictator has access to a report before it is signed. No one else shoukd be able to see it or touch it. After it s signed, it cannot be edited. The dictator himself has to make any changes before signing.

Here is how I have seen it run recently - sm

In my new GPs office. Filled out all the paperwork, PA sat with me for a bit, filled in the computer, doc came in we talked (new patient stuff) and she filled in some more on the computer, ordered some tests, sent me on my way. Followup visit everything was filled in, don't know who did it. Went to an orthopedist that happened to be in the same network as my old doctor. Walked in she pulled up my EMR with no problem, however, 80% of it was wrong, don't know who filled it in but that's why I found a new doctor. The girl that sat with me and filled out the EMR in the ortho office used to be an MT. She is now cross trained to work the whole office with only a small percentage of time doing the filling in of the EMRs. If you think technology is not going to replace us thing AGAIN. My new doc flat out told me to find a new job and do it fast.

You Know, MQs Speech Wreck Is Bad Enough
Nov 01, 2010

we have dictators who compose sentences such as this: "A xx-year-old female accompanied by daughter in secondary to within the last week has run out of her amlodipine, Prozac and clonidine anywhere from 3-5 days ago each of these." I kid you not, that is what this doctor said.  American doc, speaking clear English.  Now tell me, what am I supposed to do with that?  It is a verbatim account, but the last time I let some gobbly gook like that go through I got chewed out for it (!) ...

Looking For Job That Does Not Use Speech Wreck
Sep 29, 2012

I worked for Spheris for 4 years and it was great. Mmodal took over almost a year ago and changed everyone to speech wreck, took Outlook email away and put us on some horrible slow email system and now it takes at least 30 minutes of wait time to get the Help Desk on the phone. I am looking for a new position that is straight transcription. If anyone knows of one, PLEASE let me know!!!! Speech wreck has caused by paycheck to be cut in 1/3 at least. Thanks! ...

Another Speech Wreck
Nov 03, 2012

As per usual, SR came up with a medical worde for a non-medical word and used it throughout a report.  Think about what might sound like "peanuts" and substitute that in sentences like "the patient was allergic to peanuts,"  "She ate some peanuts." ...

Speech Wreck Suggestion
Sep 02, 2010

I have tried to explain to manager that the program is slow, and does not seem to ever correct a lot of "normal" dictation, so I have come here to ask a question of you.  I feel that we are not getting enough keystroke count for these jobs.  I have had lengthy jobs with small actual counts because of all the repairing (MEing), and pickiing up of nearby conversations, using markers judiciously as requested.  None of these markers are included in the count that I can see, but they a ...

Speech Wreck Programmers
May 09, 2012

Does anyone know anything about this job?  Are they real people?  Or is is a software program correcting the SR software program?  What do they get paid?  How does it all work?  How does the software program work?  It is watching the corrections we make on a dictator and make changes?  It is working from some kind of medical dictionary of possible pronounciations (I made that up!)?  Anyone up for the challenge of explaining it to me?  Thanks in a ...

They Promised They Would Fix The Speech Wreck.
May 23, 2014

We were supposed to provide 3 job numbers with examples of the same errors being made over and over again. Well, I did just that with numerous jobs because of numerous errors. Not one stinking thing has been done. Does this mean my TSM was just whistling Dixie and blowing smoke and did nothing about the information I provided, or does it mean the ASR technicians were whistling Dixie, blowing smoking and did nothing? Why is no one held accountable for the mess that is called Nuance? ...

Speech Wreck Venting
Jul 14, 2014

I just came across "Benzapril" listed as a medication that Speech Wreckignition picked up.  Granted, that is how this doctor pronounced it, but it should be "benazepril."  (Also notice that the original was capped while the correct is lower case.)  Now, I've seen this a couple times, and from what I understand, the speech system can't just "make stuff up."  Someone has had to have physically type that out in straight transcription (either when it was learning) or c ...

Speech "wreck" Is Making Me Crazy!
Apr 12, 2013

Anyone else notice more reports showing up with SR instead of TR lately? I have several on my accounts that seem to have been added lately that should not ever be on SR.  These are not situations that the speech engine is ever going to "learn." It takes human ears to deciper their "words." These dictators are just awful.  You know the ones...they talk so fast they don't finish the sentence and let you guess what it's supposed to be, chop off words mid thought, etc. Well, of c ...

Voice Wreck For Sure

What's with voice rec when most of the file is full of words that are not what the dictator says. I have to type more than edit on these reports. It seems to me it should be put in the straight type pool. It is hard to concentrate on these kinds of files and do a good job. ...

VOICE WRECK WORSE THAN EVER
May 13, 2014

Voice wreck has been set up to make us fail. That is clear to me now. The dictation could not be more clear, but the voice wreck will change it just to mess us up and prevent us from attaining any incentive or bonus. This has been particularly true with regard to numbers in lab values, ages, medication dosages, numbered lists, etc. NUANCE DOESN'T CARE. They just want their money. Also, there is no chance for advancement in this company. The only chance for change in this company is t ...

VOICE WRECK IS WORSE THAN EVER
Mar 06, 2015

Dictation could not be more clear. Voice Wreck is putting in udder nonsense. Yes, I know it should be utter nonsense. I'm trying to make a point because this is exactly what this sorry excuse of voice recognition is doing. We really have to ask ourselves, is this being done purposefully with the hope that we make more errors? My best guess is a resounding YES! These people will stoop to anything to squeeze a few more pennies out of us. ...

So Torn That I'm Absolutely A Wreck! Need Advice Please.

Voice Wreck Difference Between Accounts?

Is it possible for voice wreck to be better on one account than another, or am I just noticing coincidences? One account, I might re-type anywhere from 60-80%, another account I might re-type 20%. Could this be due to software or equipment, or is it just a coincidence? ...

No Many Posts On The Voice-wreck Board....
Jul 06, 2014

so posting this here. I just can't seem to get any speed on VR and the drafts coming through are really not that bad. I can easily straight type 150-175 LPH, but I struggle with VR so much.  I just got hired at this company and we are only required to get 200 LPH, which is reasonable. Why is it such a struggle for me? I have tried and tried to figure it out. My eye cannot seem to follow with voice and I end up going over and over words. Have tried magnifying the screen to about 14 ...

Completely Fed Up With Horrible Transcend Voice Wreck
Jun 16, 2011

I am on working right now and had to get away and vent on her for a second because the editing with voice wreck is SOOOO bad right now, I am putting way more effort into the reports than what I am getting paid for.  There are amazingly stupid mistakes, whole sentences missing, other sentences made up that are nothing like the dictator is saying.  If this is going to be the way it is tonight, it's gonna be a short night for me.  I refuse to make crap pay for this kind of work. ...
