What I don't understand about locking out - Gonzo

Posted: Mar 05, 2010

According to the suits, they whole reason for this locking-us-out-unless-we-are-scheduled thing was because some of us were not working when we were supposed to or clocking in and working when we weren't scheduled.

Okay, at any other job, if someone clocked in or out when they were not supposed to without notifying anyone, they would get written up 3 times and then fired.

Why do they spend so much time and resources putting this stupid, probably messy idea into play, when they could just warn trice and fire?  Just my opinion.

Lockout. - My opinion.

[ In Reply To ..]
I work when I am scheduled and there are no jobs. CCM told my group we can make up time, especially in the evening and weekends or check backlog when there is a lot of work.

Contradicting I call it.

Besides, I picked out this career 25 years ago because of flexibility and now you say we are supposed to clock in and out like any other job and if we don't, we would get written up 3 times and then fired.

Okay, then pay me and treat me better like other jobs. Pay me my yearly raises, merit increase, cost of living, etc., LIKE OTHER JOBS, instead of no raise for the last 10 years?

SERIOUSLY, is there anyone out there who has not had a raise in 10 years that is not in the MT field? (By the way, I know the economy is down right now and some have not had raises and took a pay decrease), but it was not like that 5 years ago! People were buying homes, cars, boats, camper trailers.

NEVER had problems 25 years ago with all this CRAP in the MT field. I worked in an office and clocked in and out, but then THIS COMPANY forced us to work at home and got rid of all the offices. I will be glad to go into an office and work if that is what they want, but guess what? IT IS IN NEW JERSEY! 3,000 miles away which is the nearest MQ office.

SORRY! Can you tell I am fed up? I am not directing it on you! I cannot WAIT to get my schooling done and I am outta this sweat shop field.

That is EXACTLY my problem too. I work - ME

[ In Reply To ..]
A crazy horrible night schedule as it is, but many days there is no work. So CCM says to make it up when the backlog is high, which could be anywhere between Monday to Sunday! How is this going to work? I have a feeling I won't get jobs now. Sickening.

Me too! HAD TO CHANGE TO EVENINGS, HATE IT! - My opinion.

[ In Reply To ..]
Mostly work evenings and 1 day is a split shift. My family bugs me in the evening. They want to talk to me and have dinner with me while I am at my desk working. It sucks, but I was told I HAD TO WORK EVENINGS because of no work during the days and if I want my primary and secondary. Whatever.

Had enough! Too old for this CRAP! Do not need the stress. My son works a movie theater. He loves it! Makes sometimes more than me. I am moving on to another career.

Have always worked vampire hours, but - sm - Confuzzeled

Over the past few months we've been getting shut down a couple of times a month on Sat/Sun and told to make up the work when there is work.

How are we supposed to let them know what hours we will be making up the time that they caused us to lose when nobody knows when there is going to be work?

If they expect us to only work our scheduled hours and be responsible, then they need to be a responsible employer and pay us for the downtime which isn't of our doing. Oops, I think I just heard hell freezing over!

I think the days of people jumping on to get extra hours has long past. When we jump on now we're just attempting to get our scheduled hours in; the last time I got a full paycheck was somewhere around November. That excuse is pure crap.
You hit the nail on the head! - My opinion.
[ In Reply To ..]
YOU STATED: If they expect us to only work our scheduled hours and be responsible, then they need to be a responsible employer and pay us for the downtime which isn't of our doing.

EXACTLY! When I jump on to make up hours, it sure as heck is not to go over my hours. I am barely making my 24 hours as it is.

The company says others are getting on and taking away MTs hours and jobs? HELLO? I am not working extra, LOOK AT MY PAYCHECK! I am barely making 24 hours as it is.

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE RUNNING THIS BUSINESS? The nerve to say we are SPOILED because we do not clock in when should and better be working when we should. It is because of NO JOBS AVAILABLE and the company thinks it is because we are taking hours away and jobs away from others? Who is seriously putting in overtime? And if they are, is it really 5, 10, 20, 30 hours extra?

Can still get jobs out of schedule - pedal pusher

[ In Reply To ..]
It isn't as bad as it sounds--the swap board is activated along with that feature, and the CCM puts in extra shifts you can claim when extra work is expected, so you can take one of those to be able to try to make up any work.

Note: I am not excusing the fact that there is frequently no work available because of misallocation of resources or work being shipped out. I totally agree with all that! Just sayin' that you can get the extra time back during periods when dictation is expected to get heavy; there is a mechanism, and from what I've seen (my account was in the beta testing), it seems to work pretty well.

I agree with you. How easy it would have been to straighten much of this workflow problem by getting rid of the ones who refused to work their schedule. However, I also have been monitoring the backlog off and on from around 0500 to 2300 most days this week (yes, I must have no life) lol Up until 1700 tonight, there has only been work trickling in for days...

Bottom line....too many MTs on the accounts that are still in our BOB and too much work going to India beyond our control.

what bob? - need to ID ourselves to unite, nm

Well, I would easily work my shift if I had days - my opinion.

[ In Reply To ..]
I HAD to change my shift to evenings and nights. It is difficult. Sometimes you are so tired and ready to fall asleep at your desk, especially ASR work. Haha.

I have no problem getting up and work early or during the day. BUT TOLD I CANNOT because too many people are scheduled during the days which is why I had to change shifts.

The day shift better be working or I will be glad to pop right in and take their spot! I have worked evenings for 20 years out of 25 total. Had enough.

Sorry, getting snippy and do not mean to direct it to you. I know my BP is high again tonight. Hopefully this new BP pill will work better than the other. Very healthy person, exercise, jog 20 miles a week, yoga, eat chicken salads, but I have the hereditary hypertension and told this job is too stressful. Gee, I wonder why!

HAD to change your shift? - How so?

[ In Reply To ..]
Did they tell you they would fire you if you didn't change your shift?

My CCM has asked for volunteers to switch schedules to night, but I will not do it. I am on days and will not give it up, no matter what.

If they fire me or lay me off or whatever because of it, then they will have a lot of trouble out of me. If you are hired to work a shift, they can't fire you because you refuse to switch to a new one because they can't seem to manage to "manage" things the right way.

Express Scribe Locking Up?
Jul 18, 2012

I've used Express Scribe for years and years, however, lately it has been locking up on me and the only way I have found to get it unlocked is literally shutting my computer down and restarting.  I am using V4.15.  Has this happened to anyone else?  It doesn't even shut it down through task manager.  I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling and so far can't find anything that has helped or made a difference.  Any ideas? ...

What you say is true, BUT when 90% of your work is off-shored except for 10% and you barely have any work, and the work you have is 100% ESL (the absolute worst dictators ever) you make minimum wage.  The fact that I'm a much better MT than the ILPs does nothing to comfort me at this point when I have bills to pay. If you don't believe this scenario, then you have not experienced it.  Try being in SA3.  BTW, I'm scheduled for 24 hours per we ...

I don't understand why the code 403.9 was selected.  The guidelines say you should "assign codes from category 403, hypertensive chronic kidney disease, when conditions classified to category 585 are present." There is only the 586, renal disease, present in this scenario. Can anybody tell me why a 403 code is appropriate here? ...

Something I Just Do Not Understand
