Tier 2 test - Anonymous

Posted: May 26, 2012

Has anybody ever passed the tier 2 test?? This is my second attempt at passing it and it seems impossible. You can't slow the transcription. You can't understand the words before and after the privacy tones. It's like they don't want you to pass, succeed, and reach a higher level. My regular work reports are easier to do than anything on that test, even the ESL doctors!

Well, could be that... - Old MT

...the content is "foreign" to you, and I don't mean ESL. Don't beat yourself up, read on.

I came with the company eons ago as Tier 3 because of the school I went to, but I'm here to tell you, if aren't familiar with the content, word flow, terminology, etc., then not being able to slow down, etc., is unfair.

Back in the old days when I tested for their acute care (Tier 3) fresh out of school, we used an old fashioned transcriber machine and we could slow down, speed up, etc. I think it's unfair that you can't do that here, at least it would give you a fighting chance.

I'm not sure how they expect you to do well without that tool. Ideally, they should provide one-on-one training. They used to do that here---they had a mentoring program, and if someone came in as a Tier 1 or Tier 2, someone in the QA Dept (I was one of them) would "mentor" the same person for a few months. It involved the same QA person giving personal feedback via electronic feedback and telephone calls.

Even with all my experience, I would not want to take any test without a real-live "tool" like we have on the job.

I passes as a tier 3 a year ago - are you sure you cant slow down

I remember slowing and all but it had to be done manually on the keyboard, the pedal didnt work...

Hi. I am a newbie trying to pass my final exam for CareerStep and I have taken the test with MModel and waiting to hear from them. Okay. I am new so what is Express Scribe. I found that it is hard to truly slow the recording down. Using the keys makes it too slow. Also, no one wants newbies so how do we learn? Yes, I am slow but hardworking and willing. I admit it takes me hours to do just one report right now trying hard to make it perfect, and I know with time, I will get faster when I know the specialty. Hoping to do radiology reports.

hours to do one report? - oh dear

I know you are new, but I do not think that would be allowed at MModal. You have to do 120 or 150 lines per hour I thought to stay working here. You also have to make more than minimum wage or they will fire you. You somehow have to get faster quicker. I dont know how much time they will afford you, but I would think after 2 weeks if you cannot do the line counts, you will not be sticking around.

Please, do not think I am being mean. I really am just being realistic.

Better try a smaller company or a clinic in-house - and get way better

before you jump into this big frying pan.

I suggest finding a job in-house somewhere - You will be overwhelmed

Jumping to an at-home MT job without job experience is a bad idea. The biggest reason is that you have nobody to turn to for help. You need to build up your medical language. Having the dictators around to ask what they are saying helps also. If you start with mmodal with no experience you will either by let go because of not meeting the requirements, or you will quit because it may be just too much. The stuff you get at an MTSO is usually the worst you will ever see. This is no way to build up confidence.

Tier 3 Test
Nov 21, 2011

Anyone have advice about taking the Tier 3 test?  I know taking it won't mean much at MQ but it will mean something to me and I want to give it a try.  The woman that gave me information about it said it can go into the next day.  Does it really take that long?  I work 2 jobs and am trying to figure out when to take it.  The instructions for the test sound more difficult than the test itself. ...

Just Took The Tier 3 Test. That Was Challenging For Me....
Apr 16, 2010

Four OP reports; have never done OPs before.  Not sure I will pass though, as I had to leave 11 blanks in one report.  Left 1 or 2 in the other reports.  And it wasn't because the dictator wasn't clear; I just either could not hear the surgical term/equipment/suture and/or could not reference it.  Other than the blanks, I think I did pretty well.  I think you have to get 96.00 to pass.  Can someone who has taken this test before tell me if you get points ...

Has Anyone Failed The Tier 3 Test
Oct 20, 2011

I took the test and scored a 92.91 and I needed a 96 to pass.  I feel like a failure.  The fourth report that I was given was a difficult dictator (a fast talker).  My question is, do you know when we can retest.  Is it 90 days? ...

OPS, Tier II Vs. Tier III: Let Me Break This Down For You...
Jan 28, 2010

You can call yourself an MT and work for: 1.  A single provider nonspecialist. 2.  A multiprovider/multispeciality clinic. 3.  A primary hospital. 4.  A secondary hospital. 5.  A TERTIARY hospital.   You can do "ops" with any of these jobs.  However, at a tertiary hospital you will have patients who have failed treatment at primary and secondary hospitals.  Tertiary hospitals are teaching and research institutions where you will encounter research p ...

Tier Up
Oct 15, 2009

I was just informed that I HAD to tier up.  Has anybody else been told that one?  I don't want to tier up.  I don't get much NJA and I like the accounts I work on.  I was told that I MIGHT get a raise if I did, but there was no guarantee.  Why would I want to tier up without getting a raise doing the next tier's work?  I just don't get it and I never will.  ...

Do you type ALL work types, including tier 1 and tier 2, correct?  My CCM implied that tier 3 does ONLY operative reports?? I'm tier 2 and I think I would like to try OP reports, as I've been tier 2 for quite a while.  Don't want to NOT do consults and H&Ps though.  Not expecting a raise of course, but would just like to try something different.  And maybe get NJA less often.   What do you all think?     If you do type all, what pe ...

Tier 1 And 2 Get All The H&Ps
Mar 03, 2012

This really sucks because those reports have the highest line counts, while Tier 3 does all the testing reports such as cardiology, eeg, cath reports, and surgeries. While straight typing pay may be higher for Tier 3, everyone makes the same for VR. My vent for the day. Sorry if I offended anyone. ...

Tier 3
Apr 06, 2013

What might be  happening is MM is keeping high producing Tier 3 employees and India will get all the easier work.  Tier 3's in America will do the hardest dictations and worst dictators.  The MME's in America will then be correcting more work because India will be doing everything else.  Just trying to figure out what is going on. Also, I think MM had to do something about the no work situation, either get more accounts or layoffs.  They decided layoffs. Than ...

Just How Many Tier 3s ARE Left?
Mar 02, 2010

I hit the ceiling last week and quit after 12 years with MQ part-time. I started as a tier 3 and ended as a tier 3.  Topped out.  I was making close to $20/hr and ended at $10/hr thanks to ASR.  My submission rate was apparently too high for them for Jan and Feb.  Well, what do they expect?  Shyte dictation equals shyte transcription, but I'll be damned if I am going to risk someone's life just to fill in a blank, and this was before they rolled out this "First ...

Tier Question
Apr 14, 2010

I work for another MTSO too that doesn't have the tier system.  I get just whatever report comes into my job pool from clinic to ops.  I've been at MQ for about 3 years now.  CCM keeps wanting me to tier up to tier 3 so I can start doing the ops notes because we don't have enough 3s right now.  However, I won't get a raise by tiering up.  To me the only incentive to tier up would be more money.  After I told CCM that I wouldn ...

Do You Have To Be A Tier 3 To Take The CMT Exam?

I despise even doing it at all but I want out of this place and I think having it will help my chances of finding a different job.  Do you have to be Tier 3 or is that not even a consideration to ADHI?  On that note, are there any Tier 2's here who have their CMT?  Do you actually get that so-called extra incentive at MQ for being one?  I know some other companies offer an incentive. ...
