Have I had supervisors MIA like this joint. Can you imagine walking in to a factory, office, etc. and no boss, no one knowing where the boss is, or anyone else to contact? This outfit is unbelievable. From one day to the next we don't know if we are inundated with work or just scraping by. You have to question every little thing you do, but there is no one to question. You can't take a day off because there is no one to ask. Gawd, I hate this place and I am a prisoner here because without this stinking job I would be out on the street, especially since I am here not of my own doing but because we have been swallowed up by this snake. Always looking for something else to do, but there isn't a lot of other opportunities out there at my age.

I am now 2, count them, only 2 days away from finishing my first year of residency in Family Practice. I can be fully licensed to practice medicine in the next year. There ARE other opportunities for you when you have this kind of experience. I understand that not everybody has the time and stubbornness necessary to go through medical school, but how about a scribe? Most hospital ER physicians now use scribes, and I bet, with 40 years experience, that would be no problem for you. Just a thought. P.S. Absolutely loving my life now that I've achieved my goal of being a doctor. Still getting paid peanuts, but hopefully that will change when I finish residency. The job fulfillment makes up for the pay.

They follow the docs around in the ER taking note of what the patients say in the history, typing orders, reading back test results, type reports. Essentially the ears and fingers of the docs when it comes to charting. I do not know the requirements to become scribes, but I do know that as a transcriptionist I knew most normal laboratory values and test names and diagnoses, etc.

I've interviewed for scribe positions, and the pay is considerably less then an MT. Also, in the hospital setting at least, they often are looking for med/PA students (at least what I've seen).

If you think about it, scribes are filling a position needed after cutting MT staff to reduce cost. It doesn't make sense that the scribe position would pay as much or more than the MT they let go to save money.

Got called on a Sunday night to go interview with less than 24 hours notice for a job that she said I might be able to work one day a week.

Can't do that. Had unbreakable plans for the time of the interview; needed 48 hours notice. But that was the only time I could be interviewed, she said.

We parted cordially (on the phone), but when I hung up, I realized I'd taken a job like that before, where the company was inconsiderate to start. And it ended very badly, because they were inconsiderate all the way through.

Scribes here make $8/hr. Only requirement is basic computer entry. - They dont even know medical terminology. nm

I don't faint at the sight of a drop of blood, but would have to stay out of the ER as blood in large quantities upsets me!

I also always have a ton of work. My guess is the difference between happy and miserable is your region and your TSM. I feel extremely lucky, my TSM always answers e-mails, has approved every PTO request I have made and allows for some flexibility in schedule.

in supermarket. Try to get hooked up somewhere for another job. How old are you anyway? I'm 65, so I retired. When I was fired from this place, after 15 years, I applied for unemployment and believe it or not, there were many jobs for people with our skills.

About that TSM, or whatever they're called, they don't want to speak to MTs because they're being put through heck took. I know they are easy to blame, I mean, who else is there? What can they tell you? MT jobs are going down the toilet.

Please believe in yourself and don't believe this is the only job you can do.

You have to have a ba or ma and you have to be studying to be a doc or a PA. Sounds like a great job but I don't want to be a doc or a PA, sigh

horrible ESL accounts, horrible teaching facilities with residents who don't know how to dictate. By the time you get used to them, they're gone. After 20 years, I was put out of business by Nuance taking over the last hopsital I was working for and earning a decent living. I eventually started working for Nuance in August of this year. I am tier III and I still am not at top pay. Today I asked my CCM for a raise and she said she will put in the paperwork. Why do I feel I still will be denied even though I have met all the requirements. More than likely I will be denied because they do not want any MT to make above minimum wage. Also I really feel bad for the MTs who had their pay cut. That is just not right. I notice when I ask why the pay cut the answer is always to level the playing field and to make it fair to the other MT ...

I am an independent contractor with 30 plus years experience, and have worked for the same hospital for 11 years, still at the same rate as when I started. At the time it was a good rate, now not so much--outside typing service does the overflow easy stuff , we IC's are left with the ESL's, static and more difficult reports. I have been a transcriptionist for over 10 years and I recently started a job for a small transcription company that requires 100% accuracy for all reports. I continually get flagged with emails saying, "Please find the punctuation mistake and apply back with why" These are most always just one or two comma mistakes in the whole report.
