MQ computer users - are you wary of espionage? - ParanoiaWillDestroyYa

Posted: Oct 27, 2010

The new 6.1 upgrade would not jive with mine, so am receiving a new pc from MQ soon.  Just curious how many others have been unable to work because of this upgrade to 6.1. And for those who currently use a company pc, did it arrive with the software installed? Do you think your keystrokes are being monitored?  Wink

of course our keystrokes are monitored - every second of work is monitored

So if you are unable to work, do you get paid downtime? I would like this mini vacation... sign me up.

Yes, it comes with the software. Just follow the instructions it comes with or do what I did and call support. They will walk you thru it all. You will have to download the 6.1 again, but it does not take very long and again, they will help you out.

We've been told that for a long time. Can tell - how much of the time

[ In Reply To ..]
you are logged in that you are actually keyboarding. Of course, they have monitoring to check the sites you visit. Not paranoid, just standard at most businesses.

The company I work for monitors everything. If we go to the restroom, phone call (even with Help Desk), we have to pause the program. We get a report each week of how much time we were not in the system/report. If over 5 hours (including two 15-minute breaks and lunch break of 30 minutes), we get slapped on the wrist.

When you are logged into DQS, yes, your keystrokes are monitored. sm - ExMgr

They know how lots of metrics concerning your activity in DQS and their other platforms.

Not new news at all.

Monitored how? For instance, if you're keeping a log sm - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
in Word of job numbers, number of blanks, notes for each job, etc., can MQ tell what you're typing in Word or are they only keeping track of what you type in DQS? Or is it just idle keyboard time? I'm confused as to how this works.

Tracking keystrokes?? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
They can track your foot pedal use, since your're going in and out of DQS with the pedal. Tracking keystrokes is pretty useless if you're doing ASR, where you could potentially do a whole report without using the keyboard.
This is not true. See my message below. - ExMgr

Only in the platform. sm - ExMgr

Disregard what the OP below says about ASR not being tracked - it is.

The metrics they are monitoring while you are logged into the platform:
1. Login times (in/out).
2. Total logged time.
3. Total active time.
4. Total pause time (no keyboard activity).
5. Total # keystrokes.
6. Total characters when you received the report, # characters you added, total # characters on uploaded report.
7. Total # QAMs in uploaded report.

There are a few other metrics on ASR about efficiency.

If you are logged into DQS but typing in Notepad or Word, they see it as pause/inactivity.

They compare this information with the hours you are claiming for time-keeping. It can tell them quite a bit about your transcribing habits.

If you report you worked 40 hours this week but did not meet minimum production (150 LPH x 40 hrs = 6000 lines), they will look at nonproductive/inactive time to see if there are inordinate amounts of inactivity.

They note abandoned/break jobs.

They KNOW and UNDERSTAND that there will NOT be 100% typing time/keyboard activity but there is a threshold that they begin to look at, especially if you are coming up short on production or there are unacceptable discrepancies between your worked time versus keyboard time.

wow! I could have written the above myself...I would not put it past them to monitor your key strokes...that's a great point as to why so many transcriptions companies send your their computers and set you up..."litterly" They probably can monitor everything your doing.

They have always been able to monitor keystrokes, as far back as 4 years ago. I had a conversation with my super and she told me.

Doc Wary Of Going From Tapes To Wave Files..sm
May 04, 2010

I am moving and want to keep the local doctor I type for by utilizing my WAV pedal and software.  However, when I approached the doctor about this, she was wary of having me be hundreds of miles away and typing for her.  She doesn't mind the format because she had a previous transcriptionist use it, but she was "local."  Does anyone have any suggestions or comments to help me out with this?  Thanks in advance.  Anything would be appreciated. ...

Fellow Enterprise platform users, have you ever lost the red box around the text and wondered why? Once it is gone you can no longer move about the report with ease, the facility to go to a particular place by Alt-R or double click no longer works.
