a troll who posts something ignorant just to start a fight. "Trolling for trouble".

Troll can be on any internet site that has a message board to "stir the pot" on. Not just on this site.

They post something inflammatory and sit back and watch it unfold - RubySoho

Usually someone who's bored. They scan over the forum, find out what a "hot" topic is, start a thread with something inflammatory, and watch everything unfold. There's no point arguing with them because that's precisely what they want is the negative attention and to get everyone's underoos in a bunch. Best to just ignore a troll once you've identified it. Keep feeding it and it will never leave.

It's a pattern of behavior usually. The whole purpose of the post(s) is to incite argument, inflame posters, etc.

Sometimes these are "hit-and-run" posts where the original poster just does it one post at a time.

Posts by trolls serve no other purpose than to slam and ignite, etc.

According to the Urban Dictionary, a troll is a "large, brutish creature of European myth, often lacking in intelligence." When I think of a troll, I always think of the trolls of the old children's story, "Three Billy Goats Gruff." Remember the troll that guarded the bridge they were trying to cross?

I've always assumed the folklore troll to be the origin of the internet troll, and I believe this is the case. If it were tied to the fishing usage, it would be "troller", not "troll."

When a company decides to make an account VR, are all the reports a mess to begin with for weeks or months until the voice engine (sorry if that's the wrong term) learns from the "straight" transcription that is done? Why do different platforms matter (i.e., E-scription versus M-Modal, etc).
